Question:
Has Anyone Had A Band Holiday for Slippage?

Recently I began having severe issues with my band. I've had for almost 2 years and have lost 203 lbs with no ill effects. I started throwing up, having severe acid reflux, couldn't lay down at night and a cough that would whooping cranes to shame. I was diagnosed with band slippage and immediately thought, "oh no! surgery." I was wrong and pleasantly suprised when my surgeon suggested a "band holiday" He removed the 3 ccs of fluid, instructed me to eat frequent, small meals throughout the day,(Do NOT overeat) drink lots of fluids and a Motrin for any inflammation around the band. The fluid will be out for 6 weeks and I'll be going in every 2 weeks for an xray to check the position of the band. If it repositions itself, no surgery will be required and the refill process can begin again. Is anyone else on band holiday? If so, did it work for you? Thanks so much!    — kchooker (posted on February 3, 2012)

I'm a bypass patient, so don't have any first hand experience, however a friend of mine recently had the exact same issue. The doctor emptied her band, resulting in an immediate relief of her severe relux issues. Six weeks later he began slowly filling it again and she's had no further problems.
