Question:
Shouldnt I have lost more by now?

Yesterday made 11 weeks post op and I have only lost 54 lbs. I have read someone profile who had the surgery the same day I did and they lost 67 lbs already. I know for a fact that I'm not over eating and I'm excersing three times a week. Whats going on? I know I shouldnt compare myself but I cant help it, its easier said then done!    — Maddielq (posted on May 18, 2006)

what is wrong with 54 lbs in 11 weeks. Each person is different. I know people that have lost over 200 lbs in one year, but i am only at 106. I am not in a hurry and neither should u. The weight loss program is a jouney, and a life long one. losing the weight is the easy part, it is keeping it off is the hardest. Everyones body is different. the fatter you were the more you are going to lose. how much are you drinkiing, eating, excercise etc. you should congratulate yourself on what you did and not look at what the others do. losing weight is not a contest. You decided to have the surgery just for you, and you only. You should be happy what you have done so far. Steve C

When was the last time that you lost 44# in 11 weeks? Try not to compare yourself to other people and their progress. You may have to up your calorie amount and your exercise because it has gotten used to what you are feeding it. Your body may also be taking a short rest. Get in contact with your doctor and his or her diet and exercise people and see if they can also help you.

I hear your frustration. You have worked so hard and want the best results possible. Try to keep your spirits up. I think that you are doing fantastic! Fifty four pounds is a significant amount of weight. Some may have lost 67lbs to your 54lbs but others have lost less. It is all individual. I think your weight loss is great and you sound as though you are doing the best that you can. That is all you can do. I am out two weeks down 16lbs and hope and look forward to being in your shoes. Try to focus on how well you are doing and not taking your weight loss for granted. Keep up the good work!

Everyone loses weight at a different rate and I think that 54lbs is really great. Just keep up the good work.

Dear Madeline Please take comfort in the fact I lost "slow" comapred to a lot of people. I was doing everything right and felt great, never had a problem with my surgery and eat quite normal now. I'm healthy as an ox, what ever that means, and recently diagnosied with lupus so my energy level isnt what I hoped for, but it has increased tremendously...side note if I wouldnt have lost 110lbs I never would have been diagnosed until it really caused damage because I blamed everything on the weight including the debilitating fatigue. Anyways later after a two month stall at about the 6th and 7th month it suddenly fell off. Everyone around me freaked cause i went from 158lbs to 130 in like weeks, and the smaller you get the more noticeable it is. Now I weigh between 124 and 133 depending on how swollen I am. I wish I would have just relaxed, I knew I was doing everything I was supposed to do and in the past I always lost weight fast (and gained it faster LOL). Relax, keep it up and protien protien protien, it will happen, I didnt lose the last part of the weight until the year was almost up, I was sweatin' bullets. The only thing that I can say is I ate my protien, which is so hard at your stage took my supplements, and exersized, which your doing all three, your doing so good give yourself a pat on the back girl you deserve it. Its hard I know, I did the same thing, a lot of us if were honest will tell you we did, we compare our progress to others, but in the end we end up at the same place, concentrate more on other things like new clothes, body image, enjoying your new skin, your new face, loving yourself, things that really matter, since the weight will come off but those other things well we have to wrok at them, its amazing how much mental and emotional fat we have to lose. Good luck and pat yourself on the back Michelle

I know it's hard to understand, but everybodies metabolism is different. I'm almost 3 months post-op and I've lost 83lbs. But I have a very high BMI to loss down to my IBW. Most people who haven't had the surgury might lose only a few pounds a month. You also have to realise muscle weighs more then fat. I guarantee you have lost inches also. I've just started going out to the YMCA now and my weight is starting to slow down now. Hang in there your on the winning side now:)

Quick weight loss has a lot to do with BMI. the higher it is, the quicker you lose. Personally, I do not want to lose extra fast, because it has a lot to do with your skin bouncing back. the faster you lose, the more loose skin. I want my skin to have a chance to shrink up better.

We are our own worst enemies! You're losing a lot of weight in a short amount of time ... Stop comparing yourself to others and step off the scale!

I agree with everyone else...we all lose at a different pace, but @ least we're all losing right ? I had WLS 4/5/06, i was down 23 lbs in the first 2 1/2 weeks...as of now 6 weeks out i have only lost 10 more lbs ( a total of 33 lbs in 6 weeks) I never knew this weightloss before surgery...so even though it seems to be going slow, i thank the lord it's coming off~ i eat right, take in lots of water and walk @ least a mile daily. I feel great, that's all that matters to me! feel blessed that you are losing even if it seems to be going slow~your getting healthier by the day!!!!SMILES
