Question:
Figure out percentage of weight loss and weight loss.

Hi I am 6 weeks post op and I have lost 35 pounds. How do I figure out the percentage of my weight I have lost. Also, what is a good amount or percentage to be losing? I just want to make sure I am doing all I can. I am following all the rules and only a few bumps in the road. Thanks Tammy    — tayee24 (posted on July 11, 2008)

If I'm understanding what you're looking for...I'd just say if you have 100 pounds to lose and you've already lost 35 pounds, you're 35% of the way there. I wouldn't worry a lot at this point about percentages...just keep doing what you're doing. You're doing great. When's the last time you were able to lose on average 6 pounds a week?! Keep drinking your drinks. I assume you're up to at least the soft food stage now. Sometimes it'll freak you out how little it takes to fill you up...but eventually you'll be able to eat a 'normal' size portion and a bigger variety of foods. Make sure you're also taking all your vitamins. : ) Holly

I think you need to clarify this question. Do you want to know the percentage of the amount you need to lose, or the percentage of loss of your total body weight? Well, either way: 35/the amount you want to lose = % of desired pounds lost ie) 35/135 = 25% 35/total body weight = % body weight lost ie) 35/335 = 10 % Hope this help! Laura

Tammy, a suggestion, don't worry about the percentages, you are doing great. As our Dr. says " you did not gain it over night, you will not loose it over night. Each pound is a great success. The scale does not tell everyting!

You are doing wonderful! Take this honeymoon period and enjoy the vacation of having to work hard on a diet and just enjoy! Eventually there will be a time when maintainging becomes a little more challenging and that is when "Doing everything right" REALLY matters! Relax and enjoy what a great job your are doing right now...and there is no standard scale because we all start at differentr weights, different body types, different metabolisms, different comorbidities...To get a standard scale is impossible...The average is 100 lbs loss for RNY after a year... You are doing great!
