Question:
Having a hard time finding a shrink

I am on Illinois medicaid/medicare and I am having a heck of a time finding a psychiatrist who accepts medicaid or has a sliding fee.I was seeing one Dr last year, but I wound up feeling worse everytime I saw him because he had a nasty attiude.Now I am on a 2-3 month waiting list BECAUSE I am on medicaid.Is there a way for me to get other health insurance as well while I am on medicaid? One that will cover psychiatric services without the long wait? I need help NOW!Who knows what kind of mess I will be in in 2-3 months.    — gracie69 (posted on July 1, 2009)

Do you live near a teaching hospital-university or county?They should take your insurance.

Kimberly, i am in the same boat. I live in Marion, IL and it took me awhile to get into the dr, i called in March and my appointment was May 4 and as of two weeks ago the dr's office called and wanted to meet me again so this is July 1st and still no report done yet. There is another office in Herrin but it is a $250.00 fee, that i dont have. So i know how you feel and it sucks because i have checked into different surgeons office and none of them are taking medicaid at this time.

Do you have a local mental health center? You might check that out or call a local hospital for advice.
