Has anyone been approved with BC/BS PPO of Alabama with having mild sleep apnea?

Hi Cindy, I was diagnosed with a very mild case of apnea, so mild it was my choice whether to use a cpap or not. I tried it and decided not to use it. BC/BS approved me after 2 weeks. My Bmi was(is) much higher than yours though. I would think this is what is probably holding you back. Wish I could be of more help!! I do know of 2 friends who had BMI of 39 and 40 and also got approved rather quickly. They also have Gerds and high blood pressure.Good luck to you!

Hi Cindy - I have BCBS PPO of IL (even though I live in NY) and I too have mild sleep apnea. I was just approved after the 1st letter (it took about 30 days since BCBS said they rec'd all of my paperwork from my surgeon.) My primary care physician/PCP also supported me and wrote a letter to my surgeon's office stating that he thought that I would really benefit from this surgery and why. I never saw what he wrote but that's it in a nutshell. I also have GERD/reflux disease, PCOS/polycystic ovarian syndrome and depression. My blood sugar levels were starting to rise and there is a strong family history of diabetes. My BMI is higher than yours though. Did you try printing out the letter that's already written --found on this website - under "Your Journey" menu option at the top of each page? I used that as a guideline and then customized it for my own particular health problems. Email me if you can't find the letter I'm speaking of and I'll send you a link to it! Hope this helps! ~~Lisa Bourdeau
