Question:
Are there 2 different types of VSG's?

I went to my PCP yesterday and he said something about there being 2 different types of VSGs, has anyone else heard about it or know something about it? I was wondering if he was mixing it up with VBG which I have no clue about at all.....maybe I should check that out. Whatever it possibly have some kind of tube in it but I really didn't ask any questions because he isn't the surgeon.    — Papoose79 (posted on August 12, 2009)

Most likely the physician was talking about the VSG and the DS. The VSG was initially begun as an alternative to the DS, and is a PART of the Duodenal Switch. Many Duodenal Switch patients initially had their surgery done in two stages with the VSG as the first phase, and the intestinal switch as the second. Many of these patients discovered that the first phase of the two phase procedure worked fine for them, so they did not go on to get the intestinal switch. I cannot say for certain that this is what your PCP was thinking, but I can think of no other explanation. Hope this helps
