Question:
Has anyone been denied by their Insurance Carrier?

I ws recently scheduled for surgery, Gastric Bypass, on July 16, 2012; the surgeons office called woth the time of surgery, on Friday July 13; later the same day, they called me nack an said they were having a problem with my Insurance; my Insurance subsequently denied my surgey, saying that the intended hospital was not an approved Center for Excellence. Has anyone had this problem, and how do I fight it?    — henrypaul08 (posted on August 12, 2012)

I am so sorry this happened to you! I don't have any answers for you, but I just wanted to let you know I know your frustration! My insurance does not cover any weight loss surgeries at all! So I am saving every dime I can and I am looking to go out of the country where it is cheaper!

Unfortunately denials occur too often. We have successfully fought many denials based on COE certification and may be able to help. You also may wish to see if there is a COE alternative in your immediate area - sometimes that's not the case and an insurer is trying to send you hundreds of miles away, or more!

If there only denying you because of the hospital, I would try finding out which hospitals are under the center of excellence and choose one from there. I too was orgianlly denied my insurance company which is bcbs, stating that my empolyer requires a 5yr history of doucmented obesity while bcbs only requires 3. All I did was get the medical documentation need, resubmit the claim and about a week later I was approved. I know this is a set back but continue to push forward. I wish you all the best! Good lucK!
