Question:
How do I get off of this plateau?

I am almost 10 months post op and stopped losing weight about 3 months ago. I'm so frustrated. I've lost 80 pounds, but I really would like to lose another 70. I get all my protein and water in. I will admit I am terrible at exercising. Can someone give me some help?    — kbaker559 (posted on December 12, 2006)

KIM I WENT THROUGH THIS SAME SITUATION. CURRENTLY, I AM 14 MONTHS POST-OP. I PLATEAUED FOR 5 MONTHS, CAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO BREAK IT. FIRST THING TO DO IS...START THE EXERCISING. ONE OF THE OTHER MEMBERS LENT ME A WALK AWAY THE POUNDS TAPE, AND IT REALLY WORKS; TRY IT! DON'T GIVE UP THOUGH, I ALMOST DID AND IT ALMOST GOT THE BEST OF ME. ALSO, YOU CAN START OVER...START ON LIQUIDS AGAIN FOR A FEW DAYS AND THEN PICK UP ON THE PUREED FOODS ETC. THAT WAS ANOTHER THING I DID. THESE METHODS TO GET YOU KICKSTARTED AGAIN ALL WORK, IT'S WHAT YOU DO WITH THEM. JUST DON'T FRET, TAKE WHAT YOU HAVE A USE IT TO YOUR BEST. NOW THAT YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO IT'S UP TO YOU. LISTEN TO METHODS FROM EVERYONE, MIX AND MATCH AND PICK ONE THAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU.

You have to shock your body back into losing again. Different exercise and back to the basics. Walking a little more each day does the trick for those of us who don't like to exercise. Bike riding also works. Anything that is different from your "normal" routine will shock your body and get it back on track once again. Good luck and congrats on the weight already lost.

Hey... you need to exercise. The surgery is just a tool to use in conjunction WITH exercise to lose the weight. Congrats on the 80lb wt loss.

Kim, Remember, you have to exercise and burn more calories than you are taking in to lose weight. I know you know this but dont get frustrated, get moving, exercise will be for life, we cant take a break from it unfortunately. Also, going back to basics will help too, shock your body with some new stuff, the body tends to get stuck in a rut and you have to get it restarted. Good luck to you! Angela

I am sympathetic to what you are going through, however, you have the answer right in your question. You must break the cycleof being "Terrible at exercise". If you really want to take off the weight, and work at keeping it off, exercise is essential to that plan. You have to find a way to break that barrier, and begin to enjoy exercise. Without a committment to exercise, it is most difficult to lose weight after a certain point. I wish you well. Patricia P

Most people don't like to exercise. I have been country line dancing 2 nights a week. I haven't had my surgery yet and it hurts like hell the next day but I have fun while I'm doing it. One night I wore a pedometer and we danced 3 1/2 miles. Not bad for having fun. The hardest part for me is being self consious of my weight while I dance. I worry that people are looking at me because of my size. Give the dancing a try. Best of luck.
