Question:
Has anyone found a nutritional values book that also includes sugar count.?

I cannont seeme to find one anywhere. I use to use the Calorie King and one other book but now I need to know sugar count. There are a few websites but I don't want to have to go to my computer every time I need info. It can't be this hard. Thanks for any info.    — CheekyMonkey (posted on May 2, 2009)

I also have the Calorie King booklet - I don't know the reason that you are wanting the sugar count of foods but carbs turn into "sugar" in the body and that can be more important at times. Being a diabetic prior to surgery, I was taught to follow the carb count of foods not the sugars because of this reason. "Sugar" is defined so many different ways i.e. sucrose, glucose, fructose, sugar alcohol, etc. (this is just a little bit of info that I have found helpful in the past)

Thanks for your help Pamela. I should have given more info. In addition to calories and carbs, my Doctor wants his patients to follow the three gram rule. No more than 3 grams of fat and 3 grams of sugar. So, no form of "simple sugar" and sugar alcohols should be monitored also. Other than that, just thought it would be good to have.

You probably won't be able to eat that much the first month if you tried! Later as you begin eating more, you will be able to tolerate more and more...Meats have far more than 3 grams of fat...and fruits, veggies and complex carbs as well as cheeses and yogurt, and dairy all have about 7 g's of milk sugar (lactose) per serving anyway...But yes in the first phases you won't be able to eat more than that anyway! You should just read the labels of the food you buy and not make it such a chore! ENJOY your WL journey! Later when you hit the maintanence phase you will have to get a little anal and obsessive complusive at times! But the early stages your tool really is on auto pilot for the most part...you just decide What to eat...Read labels! Easy! Here's a great site...Don't know of any books though either...Like I said...everything comes with labels with the exception of fresh produce and such... The following site not only gives the basic nutrition value but a full analysis of that food to incluse all the vits and minerals, protein and aminos, carbs in detail, whether it is a good weight loss food or a healthjy food...etc! I love this site when I am trying to up certain vitamins and need to know what foods are high in those certain vitamins or minerals! http://www.nutritiondata.com/
