Question:
IS EVERYONE SUPPOSED TO LOSE DOWN TO IDEAL WEIGHT?

I HAD SURGERY 16 MONTHS AGO. AND HAVE STOPPED LOSING. I EXCERCISE 5 DAYS A WEEK AND AM CAREFULL WITH WHAT I EAT. DOES YOU BODY JUST FIND A COMFORTABLE WEIGHT ITS HAPPY WITH AND STOP?    — [Anonymous] (posted on March 31, 1999)

I am 17 months post op...I had a VBG and am very happy with it. At first I was unhappy that I stopped loosing at around 202-206...I started at 299. Then I realized my goal had been 185 and that wasn't very far off! Then I began to rejoice, instead of mope about the negative. My skin hangs all over my body..so I'll have 'reconstructive surgery' at about 2 yrs post op. Then I should be at my goal. I've noticed that just this last month people think I'm loosing a lot MORE weight...I think it is simply my body finally believing I wasn't going to gain it back..and it's simply redistrubiting it...I even have a slight waist now! Hope this helps..just think what you would weigh now if you hadn't had the surgery? Carole in OK

It was explained to me that most people get to about 25 pounds of their goal weight. Some get to it, some go below it, but that was explained to me to be the average loss. I think most people's "goal weight" is something we have always thought we should weigh, when in actuality your body knows where it should be.

What type of surgery did you have? Do you take supplements? If so, what kind? Do you avoid milk & sugar as if every single pound depended upon it? Are you drinkign all the water recommended?

The way I understand it is that you lose 70-80% of your EXCESS body fat. That means the last 20% or so will be more of a battle for you. Good luck with your surgery. I had mine 3/25...went for my first follow up visit today (4/6) and i'm down 30 lbs. already! can u believe that!?

I am 8 months out and I asked my doc the same question! He told me that some please stop loosing at 12 mn some loose for 24 mn. It all depend on when your metabolisom and food entake equals out and or your food in to excersize out ratio is the same. In other words if your excersizing and not overeating an your weight is mantaining it probably means your at YOUR ideal weight or at a plateau. Dont sweat it. If you feal good and are happy, your doing fine.
