Question:
What is the average weight loss to expect for a 260lb person?

Around how long would it take to loss this amount of weight?    — butterfly1521 (posted on February 8, 2010)

My starting wt was 268 on July 27 2009 on January 27 so 6 months later I'm 90 lbs lighter. From size 22/24 to 10/12, still losing.

I was 268 on June 11th of last year - now 175 - stuck for a few weeks lately - but wearing a size 14, as opposed to a 24/26. Congrats! I am only 8 months out - so I am hoping for another 20 lbs to disappear (with exercise and healthy eating)

Follow the proper guidelines and with an RNY you can expect to lose 60-80% of the excess over your ideal weight or more. This includes following food plans and exercise as well as taking your suppliments, including B-12 for energy and at least 100g of protein if you want to be safe. That is a must since a normal person needs 60-100 and you can't absorb it as well as they can.

Hi Sherry: Just my 2 cents worth--I am s/p RNY on 12/29/09 with a starting wt @ 290#. Now 6 weeks out I am 37# lighter. My surgeon's staff told me to expect around a 150# wt. loss all total. Good enough for me to say "sign me up!" Good luck.

I had my RNY 1-7-03 and within 10 months had lost most of my weight. I started out at 266 and today I am at 130 wearing a size 2-4. Of course everyone's body type is going to play a big role in how much you loose and how quick. Good luck and stick with it.

I had my lap RNY in April of 2004. I weighed in at 278.5 I am almost 6 years out and I was at 150 for years. That was a size 10 for me and my goal. I didnt care what I weighed, just wanted to be a size 10. I'm 5ft 5in tall. I had a daughter die in August 2008 and since had gained 34 lbs as a result of that stress and a divorce last year. Stress is NOT good for me. I have low carbed and started exercising to take it back off and have lost 10 lbs this month. So I guess you can lose as much or as little as you want. I suggest getting to your personal GOAL because you will bounce back up at least 10 lbs or so at about 2-3 years..It happens to almost everyone I know. I am convinced that people that let carbs creep back in as their primary food and soda (even diet) not going to lose as much nor are they going to keep it off as well. My sister drinks diet pepsi and didnt get to goal and has gained back as much as I have but she's 5 inches shorter. Be diligent and Keep plugging along.

I had the VSG March 31, 2008. I was 50 years old. I started at 268 lbs. Within the first 16 months I had lost half my weight. I now maintain between 130 and 135. I went from size 24 to a 4-6. My life has changed so much. Good luck!

My starting weight was 264. I had RNY on Dec. 10,2008 and have lost 108. 7 pounds from my goal. The weight slows down towards the end. Not everyone loses at the same rate.Don't get discouraged it will come off. Joan
