Question:
Dr. Rumbaut Diaz?

Has anyone had surgery with him (lap band) and recommend him? How were the facilities in Mexico compared to US? Thank you!    — MB5219 (posted on July 7, 2007)

You keep coming up with doctors' names I never heard of, but that does not necessarily mean anything. I do know of a Dr. Ungson in Mexico womewhere. I know he is good.

Yes, I have heard great things about him. I have 2 friends who he did Lap Bands on many years ago and they think he is the absolute God of this kind of surgery. But, if you have insurance, why travel to Mexico to do it? Dr. Rumbault has a web site and a great chatline. If you get in touch with me I will be happy to give you more information. I had Dr Rumbaut perform my lap band in April. He is wonderful as is all his staff. The hospital was as good as any here (being a hospital surveyor trust me I checked it out). I do not regret it at all. Your only concern needs to be who will do your fills afterwards. Dr Rumbaut will do the fills for free for 1 year, but it is too expensive for me. He has a page on this web site. Also you would probably get mor answers if you go to the south of the border forum.

I have heard of him. I personally chose Dr Pedro Kuri. he is in Tijuana. I DID NOT choose him only because of the cost. I researched him as a surgeon, I researched all of his credentials both in the US and in Mexico. He has been doing lap band for over 10 yrs, that is the only surgery he now performs. He was extremely professional, but very to the point and let us know, if we werent ready to make the changes, pick up our checks and go home, he didn't want to waste either of our time. The hospital I went to was Hospital Angeles, it is only about 1 yr old and is absolutely gorgeous. My brother is the head of maintenece in a very nice hospital here in the states, and he could not believe the quality of equipment that they had. The only down side is that I wished that I had known more spanish. Only to be able to communicate better with some of the nursing staff, but hey, I was in Mexico, what did I expect. If you are looking south of the border, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. anyone can post credentials, make sure that they are theirs. I had a wonderful experience, I have now sent 3 other family members to Dr Kuri, and we were all impressed with the whole program that they have going on. Going south is not a bad thing, just know what you are getting into. E-mail their former patients, If they dont give you a list of more than 100 patients to contact, go somewhere else. I contacted over 500 of Dr Kuri's patients, and not just the ones at the top of the list, I went, top, bottom, midddle etc...Every response was positive, the biggest complaint was the same as mine, I need a few more spanish lessons. If you have any ?'s or want more info contact me. Best of luck... By the way, I am now down officially 105 lbs. Life is beautiful!!!!
