Question:
2 month and 2 1/2 weeks post op RNY

Hi I am 2 month and 2 1/2 weeks post op. I was 244 preop and now am 200 as of this morning. Please tell me if there is good? I need reassurance because I know everyone is different but I am freaking out that I won't get there. I know it takes time and I know that I could not lose this much on my own in that amount of time. I am just a little insecure right now. :) Tammy    — tayee24 (posted on August 17, 2008)

Hi Tammy...rest assured...you are doing fantastic. You're right, you probably wouldn't have dropped 44 lbs in 2 1/2 months prior to surgery. You are doing awesome. Keep your chin up. In another three months, you'll be down 70 lbs like me. The time flies so enjoy every minute...your doing great!!!

Tammy, Freaking out every now and then is perfectly normal. You're right, everyone is different and loses at their own pace. I must tell you, 44# in that short a time is absolutely amazing!!! Remember too that we are in this for the long haul and it is not a race... it is going to take some time to reach our goals. Keep focusing on the future with a positive attitude and follow the WLS rules you have been given and you'll do great. Ask for help and support when you need it here and we'll be here for you. Hang in there, you're doing it! Welcome to the loser's bench. Dawn

Hi, Tammy, You are doing great. I am 4 months and have lost only 54 lbs. I am scared that I am doing something wrong, I have been on this plateau and cant seen to shake it. I am discourage and depress. So if you can give me some advise and any one else. I would really appreciate that very much, cause I really wont to make my goal. God bless Jennie

Tammy-- I think you are doing awesome! Keep up the great work. It doesn't happen overnight but it happens faster than you think. Welcome to the losers bench! Jennie--My doc & nutritionist both told me to expect a plateau at some point. I haven't hit it yet but I know it will come. They said to keep up my protein intake and vitamins, follow the post-op diet, and my body would work through it and start losing again. Just don't get discouraged, this is a marathon not a sprint and we're all in it together. Good Luck! ~~~~Jen

You're doing great, I am also 2 1/2 months post op and started off at 241 and currently have lost 32 lbs, (209lbs) I haven't lost as much weight as you have, but as you said we are all different, therefore I am happy to be losing 2-3 lbs a week in comparision to losing 1-2 lbs a month prior to the surgery. Keep up the great work.

Hi, Tammy and Jennie. Please don't be discourage about losing the weight. You both are doing great. As everyone has said, we didn't gain this weight overnight and we will not lose it that way either. I'm about 3 weeks post-op and 22lbs down and happy about that much lose. The importanit things are that you both made it through wls and able to live, that is a blessing. May God bless you both. I'm new at this so I hope this help you. Stay encouraged. Gaining a healthy body will take sometime, hang in there.

Tammy, You are doing just fine. Better than most of us. It is OK to freak out once in a while. I was checking my weight three times a day. I would get upset because I would weigh more in the evening than I did in the morning. Finally my surgeon suggested I not go near the scales but once a week. In fact he insisted, and things have been just fine. You will hit peeriods where you will not lose for up to three weeks, but you body is just hanging in there and then the weight will drop quickly again. Just stay focused and keep up your excercise and diet. Don't let anything distract you from those two items and you will do great. Best of success to you.

Look at you, silly! You are almost in the 100's!!!! That in itself is a milestone! You are doing wonderful. You MUSTgive yourself a year. The first few months are like looking at a masterpiece painting with your nose pressed up against the canvas...It takes a good year (several steps away) before the entire picture comes into focus and you see more than a few brush strokes and muttled colors. Give yourself some time...you just sarted the journey...you have miles to go yet...and the fun will soon begin when people you haven't seen suddenly see you after several months...It's just incredible!

44 lbs in about 11 weeeks? That's about 4 lbs/week. You're doing GREAT! In fact I'd suggest you not try to lose any faster than that. GOOD WORK!!
