Question:
Developed Chest Pain

About one month after surgery, I developed chest pain on left side, It lingered a few days and I got worried. Of course I knew going to the ER for chest pain at my age (50's) I would be admitted for a cardiac work-up and I was. All was well in the heart department, but no reason for the pain could be determined. They gave me a diagnosis of Costrochondrititis (which is an irritation of the cartilidge between the ribs. I still have the pain off and on, 2 months post op. My obesity advocate says it could be trocanter pain, whatever that is (I think it is from putting the instruments under the breast around the rib cage). Has anyone had this experience?    — sallie H. Hi there. I too am in my 50's and I had a Vertical Sleeve Gasectromy one year ago this past June. I too have had chest pains off and on. Once I went to the hospital with the pains cause I thought I was having a stroke or heart attack. We were at the lake and I got overheated for starters. But then got this numbness and tingling on the left side of my chest and going down into my left arm along with pains across my chest. They took me by ambulance to the hospital and treated me as if I had had a heartattack. But all the tests showed my heart as in perfect condition. They attributed it to being over heated but said I was fine. I have had those symptoms one time since then and just ignored them and didn't say anything to my husband cause I was told it was nothing at the hospital. But , I must admit it's a scary and strange feeling. If you find out anything else, please let me know.

Here is the little I know. I get these pains and have for the past several years. I have been to the hospital a few times for them. My cardiologist said that in women sometimes the veins will twitch causeing this type of pain. The reason is not known, but I should still come in just in case since it could be a heart attack. I hate to go in since they always keep me just to be safe. I have had one heart attack and a double bypass. It is safer to have it checked out and not try to guess. Peoeple died all the time because they think it will pass when it really is a heart attack.
