Question:
Afternoon sickness

Has anyone been able to eat breakfast and morning snack only then to be sick the rest of the day and not be able to get anything down? I had a protein shake in the morning and scrambled eggs for a midmorning snack. After that I can not even get another protein shake or anything else down the rest of the day. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.    — przybylc (posted on February 2, 2010)

Sounds like the scrambled eggs don't agree with you yet. Try something easier to digest, like cream of wheat or cottage cheese.

You are just over 2 weeks post-op from having your RNY. I'm not sure what your surgeon recommends but when I was getting ready to have RNY I was told to have clear fluids for two weeks, meaning you can see through the fluids. Then 2 weeks of full fluids, the fluids you can't see through. then 2 weeks of very soft foods and 2 weeks of a bit firmer food before testing regular food. I was also told not to have steak or tough meat for the first few months. I'm guessing your pouch is not ready for scrambled eggs yet as that would be considered soft to medium food depending how long it is cooked for. Maybe you should contact your surgeon's office to verify what stage you should be on at this point and maybe ask them for some concrete examples too to help you out?

If you're only 2 weeks out, things are going to change for you on a day-to-day basis. I am 6 wks today post-op for rny and my tastes are still changing as well as what I can have and what I can't. If the eggs are something new that you've added to your diet, stop eating them and see if the problem continues. Maybe it's the shake? Try a different brand. If things continue to bother you, go back to your liquid diet. My dr & nut had me on clear liquids while in the hosp, then on full liquids for a week, then soft foods foods for a week and then full foods after that. I'm still having trouble figuring out what works and what doesn't, but again, that changes for me just about weekly!

I am right there with you! I get so sick about 4:00 and the nausea and vomiting comes on. I have so much spit and I think that is what it is and my nose starts running. I got c- bands form rite-aid and so far so good.
