Question:
Protein--Supplementing with what type? Soy or WheyY

I see lots of posts regarding using protein powder, flavored and/or unflavored to meet the daily protein requirements, but which is the better assimilated and/or quality of protein powders? Soy or Whey? or something else I should be looking for when purchasing? Thanks!    — Libby R. (posted on February 15, 2010)

I use more soy only because I have become lactose intolerant and too much whey bothers me and gives me diarreaha (sp).

Whey, Whey, Whey I researched and this is best for the body and weight loss. Be sure to get enough protein everyday for good weight loss not muscle loss.

Not sure that this answers your questions.... but it's an interesting difference I found between the two types of protein. Whey protein tends to make things that you add it to more "liquid-y" or soupy (like, I'd add it to my oatmeal in the morning, and it would become so thin that it was "drinkable"). But when I would add soy protein to it, it made it so thick you almost couldn't stir it at all, and it was like eating thick, chewy oatmeal that had been sitting for an hour in the pot. Very interesting. But as far as assimilation, I personally didn't find anything different between the two....other than the fact the people who are REALLY lactose intolerant probably get more benefit from the Soy powders - although if the product says "Whey ISOLATE", lactose intolerant people should do okay with it.

I have discussed this same thing with my doctors, nutritionists, and sales people at GNC. Make sure you get WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE. I spent a year and almost 5 months using just plain whey protein, and it was not absorbing the way it should, but the isolate will. I have bought more expensive brands and quite honestly I like the gnc brand just as well as the others. Good Luck

I use soy because it has a gritty taste which helps me feel more full.
