Question:
what does your belly button look like now?

i am preop and my belly button isnt visible, just a hole in my tummy! what happens when you lose loads of weight, does it then return to look like "normal" peoples do?, or will it have to be sorted out when i eventually have to have a tummy tuck?    — JULIE B. (posted on May 1, 2003)

My belly button looks like the Grand Canyon lol it is deep and surrounded by wrinkled fat from the loose skin that is left on my stomach. My friends make fun of it all the time. It is starting to be visable now that the skin is shrinking up. I could see mine fine when I was overweight. Oh well, my body sure is going through some changes, but it's all worth it :o) 7mo post-op open rny lost 117#

Mine didn't look normal until the TT. You still couldn't see it because the excess skin draped over and around it. Not a pretty sight. It's cute now though!

That's a funny question- i never thought about that. When my stomach was huge, my belly button was so hidden as well. And now looking at it, it's still not back to normal, or the way it was before I gained all that weight. Mostly b/c my tummy still has some flab and extra skin even after being at goal weight. I'm guessing it wouldn't look normal again unless I get a TT, but I'm probably not. In clothes my tummy looks flat, so it's my own self-image problem! Goodluck to yoU!

I agree with Leslie....it looks flat with clothes on..but without, my belly button looks like it's "frowning"...that's the only way I know how to describe it...I have enough excess skin/tissue to be a nuisance, but not enough for IC to cover getting it off, so I'll live with it for awhile and see how a feel about it later on...I'm 21 months post op, btw..so I don't expect anymore changes from what it looks like now unless I have a TT....Great question!
