Yes, at 8 weeks + when you start to introduce solids, you may be able to tolerate popcorn. But remeber it is high in fiber. Good luck!

I am 4 months out and my Nut said 'no corn and no popcorn' for me. Maybe you can check with your doctor or Nut as they ALL seem to have different answers for us.

Hi Tina, let me think about your question, hummmmmmm....8 weeks out from major surgery, popcorn????? NO! Popcorn is not ok at 8 weeks. You should barely be on soft foods now. Please don't put something in your body that can prick your surgical area. It has been only 8 weeks. Tina girl, obesity is a head issue with a body consequence. You will fight head issues the rest of your life. This may or may not be your first one, but you have to train your mind that you will make wise and moderate choices for food for the rest of your life. Please recover fully before you enjoy popcorn. It is not the salt or the butter that bothers me, it is the rough ends and harshness of the corn that concerns me for your digestive tract. There will be a time to eat popcorn, but not for about 4 months or so. Protect that pouch. Popcorn will also help expand your pouch. You can't hardly eat popcorn without drinking, then welcome swelling of the food, and misery for that tiny pouch! Don't go there. Protect that tiny pouch like a tiny baby. It will naturally expand on it's own as time goes on, right now you want it small and useful for maximum weight loss! You can do it girl! Hang in there! Patricia P

We just talked about this at a support group meeting and the answer was no because of the kernals. Also at just 8 weeks out you should be concentrating on getting enough protein in your diet and pop corn certainly would not help with that. Sorry.

Are you asking if it's ok to eat NOW or EVER? Personally, once you are cleared for it, I think it's a good choice, if you serve yourself a correct (see your medical professional for definition) serving size and use it for one of your "meals", not in addition to. When I get those itches that cannot be scratched and I want to eat a lot of "bites", I do popcorn. I don't think of it or care about it other times, but when i'm temtped to make (or go buy!) bad things, like cookies or worse? I can nuke popcorn, scratch my itch and be done with it, all for about 100 cal and no sugar at all.

I think eight weeks post surgery is too soon to start on pop corn. I waited until 5 or 6 months before I tried it. Everyone is different though. You may just tolerate pop corn quite well after 8 weeks. If you want to try it, just eat a small amount -- a few poped kernels and see how you do with it. Try putting a few kernels in a paper bag and put it into you microwave oven. They won't ALL pop but you'll get a few for a first trial and they won't have the usual cooking oil on them that comes from pan fried pop corn or the microwave packages you buy at the store. If this works out OK, you can try some that is poped in oil the next time. I find pop corn to be a good snack food that I tolerate well. Just DON'T OVERDO IT! The darned stiff is so good that it's tempting to eat more than you now should. Remember the volume-of-your-fist rule -- it applies to pop corn too.

How funny! Over the weekend I was visiting at a friend's house out of town. Her kids made popcorn and without thinking about it at all I grabbed a handful and stuck it in my mouth, promptly spitting it out and rinsing my mouth out! My Doc told me no nuts or anything "abrasive" as it can tear the pouch. Don't want that to happen! (I am almost 10 weeks post-op)... I have found that I can get that "salty" craving by eating a salad with lite blue cheese dressing (literally only 1 1/2 tbsp on it) and it tastes great! Hope I helped!! :) I know as much about all this as you do! lol

My doctor said no. He said I need to wait 6 months to eat anything like popcorn, corn, steak, pork chops, breads and rice because they either not easy to digest or they will cause blockage. The popcorn is not easy to digest. If I was you, call your doctor and see what he says.

Popcorn is probably not a good idea at eight weeks. If you do eat it, make sure to chew it thouroughly.
