Question:
Liposuction after surgery?

Has anyone had liposuction after a surgery? If I got it I would only be a year out from my surgery, but I know this little stomach is not going to go away without surgery. Has anyone done this, or does anyone know if any surgeons will even do this if I'm only a year out?    — wecangetright (posted on November 25, 2007)

Hi Katie, I didn't have liposuction but I did have skin removal surgery Jan 2007. Its best to wait at least 2 years or when you feel you've reached your average weight to go thru any surgeries to remove the excess skin unless in some case it is medically necessary to have it done more than once. I would talk to your gastric bypass surgeon. Mine told me to try to wait for 2 years. I did however start applying for the surgery in advance to be ready when my time was near because that ended up being a process going thru the insurance company to have them cover it. It took me about a year to get approval then I had it on my 2 1/2 year marker. They removed 5lbs of skin!!! I've got one little area to touch up but thats my own personal pet peeve...everyone raved about how great my surgeon did...and he truly did...i have a flat tummy! its awesome when you've never had that! I would strongly suggest talking to your doctor first before going to another surgeon. My doc refered me to my plastic surgeon when my time was ready. Good luck! Casey

Yes, I was thinking that it's probably not lipo you'll need, but skin removal or even tummy tuck. Again, talk to your surgeon. Mine said they won't even consider it until I've lost 100 pounds. Only have a little more to go to get there!
