I am 4 months out from a Lap RNY and at this point I'm not having any trouble getting the protein in. I have a protein bar for breakfast with 1/2 cup of coffee (20 gms). I have an EAS shake mid-morning that is another 17 gms. For lunch I have a package of water-packed tuna with a little Miracle Whip for another 20 gms. Sometimes I throw in an ounce of cashews for another 6 gms. For supper I usually have grilled chicken which at this point will take me over the 64 grams I'm required to have. Before bedtime I eat a few dried green pea snacks with a bottle of water with no-calorie flavoring. Also, you might check this web page out for some wonderful recipes. http://www.livingafterwls.com/Recipes.html Please feel free to contact me if I can help in any way. My email: [email protected]

I found that I have an aversion to the taste of whey which made it difficult in the early months. I have now found a truly tasteless product which I can stir into almost any "real" food and it works wonderfully. At GNC and online. Optimum Nutrition AnyWhey. There is also an up and coming website that I am involved with. www.proteinoptions.com. They are building a collection of protein rich and protein boosted recipes as well as a protein boosted meal/diet plan using primarily regular foods. The further out you get the more important this becomes. Best of luck to you!

Hi Mari- they way I get my protien is with cottage cheese. I add splenda and sugar free fruit, or tomatoes. I also top chicken with it since it is packed with protien. I also carry along the special K protien packs and add that to my water. Another way is to eat the egg whites or egg beaters. You can add it to a casserole and that adds more protien. Good Luck and get creative...Pam

There are so many ways to up the protein per meal...Protein powder is one way...Unflavored protein can be added to any broth or gravy....Flavored to any pudding or dessert type meal...Greek yogurt is awesome in place of sour cream or mix with lowfat whipped creams for fruit snack toppings...Add lowfat cheeses to soups (hard cheese such as romano or parmesan have more protein than soft cheeses) You can microwave grated cheese (Pepperoni too, just blot off the fat with paper towelsfor crispy "chips") in little piles to make cheese "crackers" for topping with cottage cheese or hummus. BEANS!!! Beans are a great source of protein and valuable fiber...You can make three or more bean soups or salads...I just make a salad one with chickpeas (garbanzo), barley, cannellini, and pink pintos (rinse and drain all beans first)with a Lite balsamic vinegarette dressing (make your own or use a LF store bought) I cut up different color sweet pepers and green onions and sun dried tomatoes cut up, with a heap of artichoke tapenade...DELCIOUS side to any meal...Crock pot meats...awesome! Easy to digest moist meats too...Add lentils to soups as they are also loaded with protein...If you over cook them, they make any soup or stew thick without a flour or starch thickener. Cheese, Turkey pepperoni or jerky...Home make thin crust pizza on low carb wraps...I start my day every day with coffee and a 30g serving of protein powder for a vanilla protein coffee and a little lactose free milk (Tastes awesome) Or unsweetened soy milk (lower fat than milk and no lactose if that is a problem)...I buy soy crisps as my cracker, dipping chip, or small sandwich crisp....Comes in seat salt, barbeque and apple cinnamon...The apple cinnamon ones are great with peanut butter, cream cheese, yogurt, NSA ice cream sandwiches! The barbeque ones taste sooooo good with plain greek yogurt or seasoned (onion and dill, garlic and parm cheese) yogurt or hummus. MAke bruschetta with sea salt soy crisps...(chopped tomatoes, fresh basil and a dash of balsamic and olive oil, parm and a mozz cheese heated to melty! YUM! Make a immitation crab dip with a little cream cheese (melted and mayo, chopped celery, course pepper and onions...eat with soy crisps....So many creative ideas....so little time in a day to eat it all! Just kidding...So little room in the pouch! That's just to get your started...GET CREATIVE!!! Try cool things...Don't be afraid to experiement...By the way...SF choco syrup does NOT taste good on cottage cheese! YUCKY! LOL But I tried it! But SF instant pudding does though! (Especially if you whip the chunks out of the cottage cheese in a food processor...YUMMY!
