Question:
Has anyone had a bad taste in their mouth?

I'm 3 wks post op and about a week ago I started having a bad taste in my mouth. I thought it was the gallbladder med my doc had me on but I stopped taking the med on a trial run to see if that was what it was. Apparently that wasn't it. I still have the bad taste. Has anyone else had this problem?    — jada115 (posted on August 7, 2008)

It's probably ketosis and that's a good thing! It means you're burning fat! Keep drinking!

I agree. Not the best taste, but it does mean you are burning fat. Mouthwash?

It could be Thrush which is a yeast infection in your mouth. Look for white patches on inside of cheeks under the tongue or on roof of mouth if no white areas it could be Ketosis. BUT make sure it is not thrush first!

I agree with the Ketosis. My dietician discussed it wih me and recomended to just brush teeth often, use mouth wash or SF mints. She said to avoid gum in case of swallowing since it may block your outlet. If you have abdominal pain with it then you should call your md.

I am a little over a week out and have this. I am not sure what it is but I would take the other members advice as to it being Ketosis never was told about this but my DH tell me my breath is weird so I just brush more often (6-8 time daily) and use a lot of mouth wash!

thanks for all the info. I hadn't actually thought of ketosis but I do remember having the same thing when I had gone on an all protein diet. BTW- that is the only problem I have had. I feel very fortunate that their are people out there to listen and help me.

I had the taste to and it lasted for a couple of weeks. Like the others, I brushed more often, used mouthwash and used sugar free mints. Like the other person said, that's the only issue I've had with my lapband procedure - - my experience has been great and I look forward to my new journey in life! Best of luck to you.

Yep...Ketosis....it finally goes away when the weigt loss slows down. Til then, just know that you're losing weight and that's a good thing...Drink lots of water to wash out your mouth...It helps...

There are little strips you can buy at Wal mart, ketosis strips you pass it thru urine. It will tell you if your in keto. that should answer your question. I used them while trying to do the Adkins diet.

I am 4 1/2 months post-op and still have a nasty taste in my mouth, especially in the morning. It actually wakes me up because my mouth feels gummy. Someone told me that the protein drinks may also have the effect of making your mouth feel slimy. YUCK! Well whatever it takes. I can brush my teeth!!!
