Question:
what meds are toy to take for cramps after you get a RNY

I haven't had my surgey yet I'm going to have my RNY on June 29th. I'm just wondering what can I take for cramps when my menstrual cycle starts. I know there are medications after the surgery I can no longer take. Would midol be a problem or is there something else I should take? I'm just wondering please get back to me if you can.... Sorry about this but you can only take extra strength Tylenol or any Tylenol product that will work for you. Nothing else. Asprin is not recommended.

Hi Theresa.... No one on here can or should answer that for you. If there is one thing I have learned since my actual surgery, it is that everyone has an opinion but Our Doc's ultimately have the last hoorah. For example.....I have severe dibilatating arthritis amongst other things and we are never ever to take NSAIDS or anti-inflamatories for the rest of our lives. But here again. MY WLS DOC said if I continue on this great trail of recovery that I could start Celebrex in 3 more months. And depending where you live, what Doc you have, how much experience they have, what surgery you actually have and your own medical history..... THERE ARE NO HARD FAST RULES.Each one of us is different. So we can only tell you what ***WE*** were told and can and cannot do.This medication question is definately one for the ole' Doc. I wish you great success in what ever path your on . God Bless....Renee

Hi, I had my surgery on 2/19/09 and I have that exact problem. I have very bad cramps during my cycle and have been struggling with this. Absolutely no Motrin, Advil, Aspirin, Midol (has Naproxin which we're not allowed) or any other anti-inflammatory meds. My PCP gave me Ultram/Tramidol for the cramps but I have yet to take it because I want to ask my surgeon about it first. Honestly I've been taking Vicodin or Percocet for the pain. I'll take the smallest dose I can. I take just enough to take the edge off the cramps so my day is tolerable. I have a meeting with my surgeon on Saturday so I'll ask him about the Ultram and let you know. Sorry for the bad news about the midol.
