Well, to be honest I couldn't and didn't eat that much till about 6 months I ate about 2 tablespoons of lowfat cottage cheese 3 times a day is about it for about 2-3 months then I would up it a little bit Just be careful how much you eat you do not want to stretch your stomach back out. I had my surgery a yr ago last month and lost 103 lbs. went from a size 20 to a 8 and feel great... If you need to talk please e-mail me I know it is not easy at first but it does get easier believe me we lost our best friend (FOOD) Good luck...Cindy

I am sorry to say this but your eating is totally out of control. You are eating enough food for someone that is almost a year out. You should be getting very sick by now. I suggest that you see your dietican and surgeron asap. you should be eating just a couple of tablespoons for this early. 1/2 cup at 6 months.

I had my surgery on Jan 24th. My nutritioist told me when I was as far out as you are, that 1/2 to 1 cup per meal. If you are eating 3/4 C.of something like cottage cheese or even refried beans, I woiuld say try to bring it down to 1/2 C. Don't forget that refried beans and cottage cheese, soup, etc are substances that really do not have that much bulk to them. I like you, am always so paranoid about eating to much. I have found that to just stop when i am satisfied is helping me allot. That usully is only about 4oz. Don't drive yourself bonkers because that is what I do. For those who are still eating only 1 or 2 tbsp at 1 yr out that is great but i was told that our new stomachs at the end of a yr can be able to hold 1 to 1 and a half cups. Two tabespoons has never been enough for me. But, even before surgery I have always had a good strong stomach. I have lost close to 65 pounds so far and my surgery was 4 months ago. Iam very very happy. I have only thrown up about five or six times, and that was because I ate to fast and did not chew my chicken up enough. I usually visualize my pouch as an upside down funnel and I must chew everythingup enought to fit threw the opening. Call your Dr. or nutritionist and don't take my word for it or anyone elses EVERYONE is different. It would take and AWFUL lot to stretchout the tummy to where it was before.

I am 10 days out. I'm eating 6 X a day, but it is supposed to be 3 meals and 3 snacks. You can call it what you want they are about the same size. I try to have mainly protein. I include protein shakes as a meal or snack. As far as amounts go, I can eat more of certain things and that concerns me because I LOVE to eat as an activity. I would ask the nutritionist attached to your DR., though.

I agree with most of what has been said- I had my RNY 4/18 and I eat about 2 oz 3 times a day- if I think I am hungry inbetween I have a sugar free popsicle or a little sugar free jello- also my program didn't let me have refried beans until I was 4 weeks post op. Are you drinking your 64 oz of sugar free caffiene free fluids?

Katrina, everybody is different. Some Dr's tell their patients to eat sooner then others. As you stated, you used your magic bullet. That is why you were able to eat more because the refied beans were liquified. If they were more solid you wouldn't have been able to eat as much. Remember, liquids go through our pouch a lot faster than if you had eaten something solid. I to had surgery last month and I feel sometimes I eat a little to much and wonder if it is ok. I do keep a food journel and that way I can tell how many calorie's I am eating a day. Also it helps to keep up with my protein and also how much water I am drinking. Since you are still on pretty much liquids, your water may not be as much as if you were taking in solids. One thing is to try to make wise choices in your foods. I sometimes feel my choices may be unwise, but that was our problem before and this will be a habit we must break. Don't beat yourself up!

Katrina, While this forum is good for sharing experiences, you'll find that EVERYONE has their own idea of what is right. Your first source of information should be your Dr. and or Nutritionist. It sounds like your pouch is healing nicely if you can handle the refried beans and if they agree with you, great. My Dr. told me they are a great source of prtein and fine to eat. The most important thing to do is learn to quit eating when you feel the slightest bit full. Good luck and hang in there. Don't worry about eating more than 2 Tablespoons at a time.......everyone is different. Cottage cheese and yogurt are also good sources of protein.

Over how much time? If more than 15 min, yeah, I'd say STOP IT RIGHT NOW and just get on along the road going it right. This one time didn't ruin your wt loss and now you know better. It was one of your learning experiences, or what I call the break-in period where you learn how to drive your new equipment. I'm not a fan of pureed, personally, since it encourages grazing and over consumption. Better to eat soft beans by spoon, wait til each bite settles, FEEL the sensation of it, texture, taste, how it feels when it hits your pouch. Chew it, even though it's soft. Savor the flavor, rather than going for volume.

You should talk to a nutritionist who is experienced with this surgery.
