Question:
I had surgery 6 days ago and have a drain in

They want my drain in for a week however this friday their office is closed. They can't get me in thursday only today (wednesday) which is kind of early. I don't want to have this thing in over the weekend. I am starting to become much more mobil and have now gotten it caught 2 times which is not good either. They say to have it out they want you to drian less than 10cc's on a 24hr basis I drain about 20 to 30 cc's. I don't know what to do. I know many who have this taken out at the hospital so I have already had it in longer than most. And when your in the hospital you are draining more than I am right now. Any advice?    — MyOrchids (posted on June 3, 2009)

I haven't had WLS yet, but have had another surgery that became infected which then required another two-week hospital stay. When you're in the middle of it time seems to go slowly, but if your doctor's office thinks you should wait, a weekend is not really a long time to wait. Best success to you!

I had my drain in for close to 9 days. Yes, it was a pain but it was tolerable. Perhaps use a safety pin to keep the pouch in place like on your underwear? That worked for me.

I had mine for about 2 weeks after I came home. It was a pain but the alternative of infection and hospital return made it tolerable. Use a safety pin and pin it to the inside of the dress you wear then tuck the extra tubing in the edge of the waistband of your underwear. That was what I did. Good luck

i had mine for 10 days. when i had a tummy tuck mine was taken out to early and caused all kinds of problems. so it is probably better to leave it in over the weekend.

I had mine in for a week After I came home, and I too got it caught a few times.. not so comfortable.. I dont think going home with one is all that uncommon, especially if it was open surgery.. If you trusted your doctor to do the surgery, and he says it can come out now then I would think it would be ok...just a thougt..best of luck!
