Question:
I've had an ear infection for about 6 weeks, need advise.

I've been on two courses of antibiotics and ear drops for an ear infection that I've had for about 6 weeks and so far it hasn't cleared up. Would especially like to hear (LOL) from medical professionals if you think that maybe because of absorption issues the antibiotics may not be working like they should and if so, what else (or in what form) could I take meds.    — dnefews (posted on July 17, 2009)

It might not be the right antibiotics for your infection. You have completed 2 rounds. Ask your dictor for an ENT referral asap.

I had the same thing, believe it or not. I finally went to ENT and he put in a "tube" to drain the ear, like what they do for children. Did it right in the office, and the only (very slight) discomfort was from the anesthetic shot. The ear feels much better and I am regaining the ability to hear again. Good Luck!

I have had them put a tube in for a ear that would not heal. It was not painful and a miracle improvement in my hearing.
