Question:
weightloss with lapband

I was just wondering when having the lapband whats the average weighloss in a month. I know its faster for gastoric. I would love to hear what some of you lapbanders have experienced. I just had my surgery 11-08-07 and have lost 12 lbs already and excited, thanks    — gabbyjane (posted on November 18, 2007)

My weight loss has been very good, some months better than others. I think we probably lose from 6 to 10 lbs per month on average. Please take a look at my profile for the full story. Congratulations on your loss, here's to continued success!

I had my lapband surgery 15 months ago and have lost 60 pounds. I'm averaging a pound a week--4 pounds a month. It took me 8 fills over 7 months to get restriction.

I THINK YOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT THE GASTRIC BYPASS, I HAD IT ON 11/9 AND SO FAR I'VE LOST 23 LBS WITH A TOTAL OF 41 LBS SINCE OCTOBER 2ND. I THINK WE HAVE MORE RESTRICTION THAN THE BAND DOES. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR NEW ADVENTURE, GOD BLESS, DEBI ROBINSON

My doctor says 1-2 pounds a week. I had surgery June 4, 2007 and have lost right at 50 pounds and 64 pounds total from my highest weight May 1st.

Just wanted to say with lapband it is slower but in the end you will be glad as long as you use your tool. No milkshakes etc they are liquid fat and go right through. With bypass the weightloss is so fast and dramatic your body cant handle it and you get lots of loose skin. I didn't have the band but had a restrictive with no malabsorptive very similar to banding. I was 273 to start 135 to finish and had no bat wings just a small area on my lower belly. My friend had bypass and she has bat wings on her arms legs and a very big area of hanging skin on her abdomen and we started about the same weight. Do lots of cardio and sculpting exercises and you will be happy with the results. Be patient it didn't take you 1 month or ever 6 months to gain the weight so it will take time to get it back off.

Had lapband on Aug 29th. to date have lost 38 lbs. It's been so simple for me. I would encourage anyone with a weight issue to check it out.

With one exception, you got great guidance about weight loss success rates with the lap band-- although I am an RNY-er who needed the dumping and slight initial malabsorption to lose, I know lots of people who have made the best possible use of the band to get great results. But, the rapid weight loss of RNY DOES NOT CAUSE THE EXCESS SKIN-- this is a myth. When the skin stretches as it does when we are morbidly obese, it tends to lose a lot of its elasticity-- no speedy or slow weight loss will change the skin's tone, so the method or speed of loss won't impact whether it hangs or snaps back. Part of the misconception is derived from the mere fact that most initial RNY patients were much heavier than the typical banded patient-- we tended to have stretched our skin a lot further, so we tended to suffer from skin whose elasticity was compromised.
