Question:
When will weight loss slow down significantly?

Hi, I am now 7 months post-op for Revision from stomach stapling to RNY Gastric Bypass. I lost faster at first, (I think most people do) and have had a few 1-3 week plateaus, but have been pretty much steadily losing an "average" of 2 pounds per week, or 8-9 pounds per month.... I know you stop losing weight eventually, but how does that progress? I still need to lose another 65-70 pounds to get to my goal weight of 155-160. At what point will it slow down to where I am only losing one pound a week, or whatever? Will I lose 2 pounds a week as I am now, for quite awhile yet? Again, how does this process progress? Anyone who is further post-op than me, can you tell me how that worked in your case? Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    — Gina S. (posted on September 5, 2008)

I friend, I too have the very same question. I went into Bypass surgery at 260 pounds. i am now at 177 pounds. My goal weight is much like yours (150-160 or so) I have been steadily losing every month w/very few plateus. I am also wondering how my body will know when to stop losing the weight. All I am doing is eating healthy and walking a few times a week. This has not been a struggle for me at all w/the weigth loss, but how do I know it will stop before I lose too much weight? I'm scared I will end up a size zero or something and look too skinny. I am very interrested in the answers you get as well. Thanks Lisa

I started at 315 lbs...I lost so fast the first month...(40 lbs) The second month was about 25-30...then 20...then 15... and again....then 10...then 8 and again......then 6...then 5...then 4...then 3... It just dwindled and faded away! I had 2 week plateaus at 6 mos...and they came often after a big loss of 5 lbs in one day...Then ther ewas NOTHING for weeks...Frustrating!( As we all know!) These were my approx numbers. I got sick at about 15 months...First cold in 2 years and lost 5 lbs...Almost immediately I gained 7-8 lbs and that is where I basically stayed...My lowest was 158...and I weighed 158 too....but now I maintain for several years at 165 ish....IHave tried a few times to get back into the 150s...But I just don't try hard enough...I had to diet when I got anemia because I was ordered not to exercise for several months and THAT was not helping me maintain my weight at all! so I had to diet for 6 months and it was hard! But I did it and am back to maintaining and eating more calories again without gaining...although i am up 3 lbs right now and I'm back to full working out ....so I'm not freaking out just yet...5 lbs and I hit the raw veggies and lean and NO CARBS for a while. (just fruit) I don't consider fruits carbs since they don't react in me the same as simple carbs...So....That's how it worked for me. Plus I just found out I am hypothyroid again...and so that 3 lbs could be my thyroid-metabolism out of whack again and causing me trouble...

I am down to what everyone says is all they think I should lose after losing 135 lbs, and the weight loss is slow from 15 pounds average a month to 2 pounds this past month. I still eat the same, but there is less fat to burn and my metabolism is slowing the loss down each month now. In my support group there are people that had surgery before me that are now staying the same for 3 months or more, some even have gained and last a pound or two from month to month. I want to take off another 20 pounds but at this rate it will take me 10 more months. Down pray for it to slow down too soon, as it will. Best of success to you and stay focused on your goal.

Hi, I am currently 6 years out. I don't remember exactly, I'm sure it depends on the person, male or female, etc. However, I did update my profile faithfully the first year I believe, you can take a look to see. I am a member of the century club and started out at 281 lbs, now I am 170. Although I would like to be about 150 lbs. I am happy in the size I'm in. Good luck! Laurel
