Question:
What is the best way to lose 12 pounds post-op?

My weight is always up and down, very good Food planning but need to know if maybe a protein mix will work and 1 meal 2 snacks. I really don't want to get to the doctors office before surgery and fail. Not going to happen.LOL    — B_igbodybenz100 (posted on September 6, 2010)

I think you mean pre-op? This is what my nut. suggested: Breakfast: protein shake in 8 oz milk Lunch: 3 oz protein, salad, milk, fruit Dinner: 4oz lean meat, lots of veggies, potato OR rice OR 1 cup pasta I have actually lost 12 pounds on this!

The Best way is to stick to the Plan that your surgeon is suggesting after surgery. Even do it before the surgery thus it's not such a shock to your bodies system. I did it 6 months pre-op and lost 60 pounds. Good for your progress, Mike

I agree with Mike. My friend and I had our surgery the same day and we both decided to go on the same diet we would have to follow afterward, to get us use to it. We both lost around 20 lbs. Good luck and congratulations on starting your new life!!! Kim

My pre diet was clear liquids and protein shakes, it was rough on the onset but I lost. Like one of the other person said, listen to your Dr and NUT.

You say "post-op", but I think from what you write after that, you might mean "pre-op". In the three weeks before my surgery, I lost 20 pounds. Here's what I did: I had a packet of Optifast vanilla or strawberry each morning, mixed with water (and sometimes a banana in the blender). I had an Optifast soup mix at lunch. I made a green salad for dinner with mostly iceberg lettuce, but also kidney beans, a hard-boiled egg, and often some tuna, with a 50/50 mixture of lite/regular salad dressing. I was told to purge my gut on the day before surgery, which I did with some magnesium citrate. Ugh. But the night before that, my wife and I went out and had what will probably be my last "big" dinner at a restaurant. As I said, this routine helped me lose 20 pounds.

I'm with Shelly. They put me on the protein shake 2x a day with one weight watchers meal. I had some problems so they put me on total liquid diet of 3 protein shakes a day. It gets a little old especially because you are on a liquid diet post-op but you will lose the weight, but before you start. Have your last meal, so that you don't think oh crap I might not ever eat that meal again not because you will die but you won't either like the taste anymore or the portion just won't be the same ever.
