Question:
Is a Panniculectomy done with Lap rny?

I wanted to have abdominoplasty surgery prior to having any knowledge about gastric bypass,do any of the surgeons perform tha panniculectomy at the same time?    — scencemi (posted on July 2, 2001)

About two months ago I saw a tv show -- I think on Discovery Health channel. They were following a patient being treatd (GB surgery) at a Univ. Medical School/Hospital. Her physician did the panniculectomy at the time of the bypass. She had severe arthritis, a lot of loose flesh around the abdomen and used a wheel chair for moibility. The surgeon said that doing the pann. then was beneficial to give her greater mobility and an immediate weight loss to help reduce pain of standing/walking. Dr. Yates and Dr. Mitchell in St. Louis do the open and the panni at the same time, in fact I'm having mine done tommorow. I've talked with several of their patients who are very glad they had them done at the same time and their stomach remained tight after the weight loss.
