Question:
Is everyone required to have the barium test?

I had a barium enema when I was going to have my gallbladder removed,I just want to know if everyone having gasrtric bypass is required to take a barium test and if so has anyone every had a allergic reaction to the barium?    — scencemi (posted on July 2, 2001)

Jennifer, no barium studies of any kind were required prior to my RNY. WLS primarily involves the upper portion of the gastrointestinal tract and barium enemas generally would not be considered necessary or useful. Good luck!

I had the upper G.I. barium test before surgery, it was no big deal.

My Surgeon did not require a barium test...He said he did not think I needed it...I do not know why...Has anyone else had this expierence?
