Question:
feeling really yuky

I am going to call my dr. But I am interested if anyne out there after surgery felt like this. I had surgery last friday feeling good. But today i woke up feeling very yuky. I am weak, foggy headed, and my back hurts a bit. I also seem to get some stabbing pains once in a while in my back. My magnesium was low in the hosp. they gave me some intravenously and all was ok after they checked my blood again. Was wondering if it could be low iron? Any ideas.    — teresasmiles (posted on February 13, 2008)

Call your doctor. I felt realy bad and did not want to get up in the morning. I though maybe I was low on Iron or not taking enought vidimuns, and after three weeks I finally called and when in to see him. He soon determined that I was getting depressed, something that happens when you are losing a lot of fat. The put me on a small dose of Lexapro and now I get up and go to the gym every moring for a workout. One other issue oif tired and back aches is low Vit B-12. They can give you a shot, but there is also a spray that I use under my toung that keep the levels up.

Call your doctor right away. How is your fluid intake? You might be dehydrated.

I was very anemic after surgery. But that was also due to a female issue. I ahd to go for iron IV"s at one pont. When my iron was low I didnt feel yucky I felt tired. A lot fo people have been saying there backs hurt and I never had that problem. The dr will probably do more blood work on you

I am pre surgery but I hope you called your doctor. I am thinking of you. It is good for us pre-surgery folks to know what you are going through--just hope you feel better very soon. I have had a lot of surgery in my life and my experience is there are good days and bad days and eventually the good days win.

Are you taking your protein? Check for kidney stones?

If you had a catheter in after surgery, you could have a urinary infection. Are you running a temperature? Hope the Dr. can help you feel better soon. Julia

I would be interested in your intake... what are you putting in your body? We have no idea how that affects our overall being. Even though your intake amts are very small, are they nutrient dense? I would love to explore some healthy options, what did your doctor suggest? Feel free to email me at [email protected], I am an RN and Nutritional Health Coach.

Probably not low iron unless a) you started out with low iron b) you bled a lot during surgery... I'm wondering if you might have a bladder/kidney infection... people who are catheterized have a high rate of UTIs (even once the catheter is out for some period of time) as you are basically providing a ladder for bacteria to climb up. You also had surgery a week ago... is it possible that you over did it? Your body is also going through a lot of changes as you have also dramatically decreased your calorie intake so this may take some time to adjust to. If you are concerned enough to post about it on OH, then it is usually a sign that you need to call your doctor. Better safe than sorry. Best wishes.
