Question:
Looking for a support group near Chaffee County, CO

I will be moving to Buena Vista, Colorado mid to late August. I had my surgery (lap RNY) 18 months ago at George Washington University Hospital (Washington, DC). My wonderful surgeon is Dr. Juliet Lee and we have a super support group that meets 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. Dr. Lee does not know any surgeon to refer me to out West, and I know I will sort of be in the "boonies", but I would like to find a good surgeon for my followup care and an active support group that I could attend at least once a month (I would drive 50 to 100 miles if need be). I know I can always use this network, but I seem to thrive on the personal, face to face contact. I have been very successful and fortunate to have no real problems with anything physical, but of course I have the "head issuses" that all formerly morbidly obese person deal with, thus the need for the continued support. Thanks for any information!    — canim150 (posted on June 17, 2008)

Dr. Michael Snyder is an AMAZING surgeon! He is located in Denver, and he is a specialist in bariatrics. He also pays out of his own pocket for patients to attend all his many supports groups! Check out his website for more info and good luck!! denverbariatrics.com

This is a great web site and has good answers....but if you ever want to try another one that deals more towards the lap-band you might look at Yahoo Groups......then type in Bandbuddies.......good luck on your move and what a great part of the country to go to. There is a group of 5 surgeons who are all in the same practice together here in Colorado Springs. They are also the only center of excellence in all of Souther colorado, (Denver is northern for those not from CO) They work out of Penrose hospital. suport groups are 1 and 3 tuesdays and 2 and 4 fridays every month, all are at 6:30. Driving distances: Buena vista to Penrose Hospital = 96-97 miles

sorry, clicked to fast, Driving distance from Buena vista to Denver is 123 miles, although this could be shorter if the hospital is not in Denver proper. Also Denver has more traffic than the Springs, but being fom DC that may not be an issue :-) hope you find a support group that give you what you need.

As another person wrote, there are meetings in Colorado Springs. It is an amazing group of people that are at all different stages of the process. It is at a Center of Excellence at Penrose Hospital. The meetings are the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, and the 2nd and 4th Fridays. All at 6:30. Please feel free to call me and get directions and I can answer any questions. I am on the board for the support group. If you will be here in July we are having a 1 day WLS conference. Monica Gantz will be the main speaker with several break off groups. July 19th(Sat). My number is (951) 760-4174. My name is Wanda Morgan. Hope to hear from you!
