Beef is commonly the hardest protein source to digest. I hear this constantly at the 3 support meetings I attend each month. Some wt gain after surgery can be expected, unless you strict adhere to the post op process you followed for the first couple of years after surgery. Some tips are offered on my profile page. Dave

I was introduced to the Tap Technique for depression...wasn't able to stick with it. Need more concrete help, like trying to live in the moment and not the past or future. I would be willing to try again the Tap Technique when I get those cravings later.

In my opinion, and in the opinions of quite a few professionals who have written on the subject, cravings are a sign of missing nutrients in the body. The body requires certain minerals to allow it to use the other nutrients we take in each day. Without those, we may experience cravings, aversions to some foods, and a lot of other problems. I don't believe some of the over-processed supplemental canned goods offered by some of the sponsoring vendors on here are the answer either.

One of the consequences of weight loss surgery is that there may be foods that you can't eat/tolerate. It sounds like beef fits into that category for you. As far as going out to eat, try ordering something you can eat at home and see if you still get sick (for example, if you can eat tuna salad at home, try ordering when you are eating out)--the purpose of this being to try and figure out if it is the food choices you are making while out to eat or just going out to eat that causes the nausea. Five years out, your body is/has adjusted to the surgery you had, meaning that you will have to continue to be very diligent about watching what you eat and getting enough exercise. I would suggest trying to figure out a way to satisfy the sweet cravings without eating things high in sugar... there's some really good sugar free candy (tho do be careful as too much can cause GI symptoms), low carb ice cream, fruit (esp. berries) with splenda, etc. Most importantly, if you are concerned enough about these issues to post on this board, then you need to make an appointment with your surgeon or primary care doctor to discuss these problems.

I agree, cravings are due to missing vitamins and minerals, especially the minerals. Try a good powerful liquid vitamin/mineral such as VEMMA. It will also help with depression. Go to www.TrySomeVemma.com Questions go to [email protected]
