Check over at the LabBand page. There are lots of people posting everyday about the effects of certain ailments that got better after getting their band.

First of all where is the Lap Band page? I never found it. Second, I have hyperthyroid and the Lap Band and I must say that my weight is coming off very slowly. Even without the band, most people would have lost more weight than I have because I exercise at the gym as well as go to water aerobics almost daily. I am 8 months out and have only lost 25 lbs. My Dr. told me that I should have had the RnY. Well now he tell me. I wish that he had guided me to that before I had the band. I must also admit that I have not had the physical problems that some of the RnY folks have had either. Good luck in finding your answer. Susan

If your thyroid levels are Normal, it should not interfer with your weight loss. If you aren't sure, get your blood drawn. Check free T4 & TSH. you can ask your primary doctor or surgeon for this.

I was diagnosed w/hypothyroidism about 5 years ago, and had the lapband surgery 12/22/08, my first fill on 1/26/09 . In the last 7 weeks I've lost 29lbs. Trust me - the surgery was the easy part - I still get hungry and have to make wise food choices. If I didn't also have serious knee pain and was able to excercize more, I would probably be losing faster. Have you decided to get WLS?

Julia,I had RNY 4yrs ago while having thyroid cancer. I was never told that it could hinder my weight loss. I never lost the amount of weight I'd hoped to. I became very frustrated when at 18 months I began to gain. I've gained half of what i lost and am talking with a surgeon now about getting a revision. My blood pressure never reached a normal level and has skyrocketed within the last several years. Having the surgery was the best decision I ever made; however, I just wish I'd been better informed. I feel like such a failure, but know that the thyroid controls everything metabolically and it is to blame. By all means, have the surgery, just loose as much as possible within that first year. Good luck.

Yes. I have been on some type of thyroid medications for at least 20 years. I had the lap band surgery 12/9/08 and have lost 35 #s to date.
