Question:
Has anyone else been diagnosed with "Schatzki's ring"?

After my UGI, I'm being scheduled for an EGD. How much delay could this cause?    — Sadie W. (posted on June 4, 2008)

I had RNY on 4-2-08 and I have had this problem with the "ring" for many years. I have an EGD done at least once a year for this. The procedure is in and out and doesn't take any time to heal. You may have a sore throat for a couple of days, but other than that the next day you should be fine. It shouldn't delay you any.

This ring will most likely need to be diagnosed and/or treated before your WLS. This can usually be dilated during the test. Like the previous author said, this test is brief and because of the scope, you will most likely have a sore throat, but that should be about it. Good luck to you, Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC, CLC

Well I am not sure about the UGI, but I too was scheduled for surgery (for tomorrow) it was postponed because I have to have an EGD. I was told that it would take three weeks before the procedure would take place. Fortunately the approval took a day and I am scheduled for the EGD on Friday, June 6. They did mention that I would have to be scheduled for a follow-up two weeks later, at which point I will, God willing, get my GI clearance. Then we could move forward with WLS. I am hopeful that there will not be too much delay. In any event, it is better that they catch all they can prior to surgery; right? I know you will be great.

Thanks to all who answered. I'm a lot calmer this morning, and realize that these are just challenges, not the end of my story. God bless.
