Thank the lord NO! After surgery you should be able to get up and walk around.

You must remember that every surgeon is different. I had a catheter. It was not put in until AFTER I was fully knocked out. A catheter isn't such a bad thing because your doctor needs to monitor how your body is reacting to the surgery and meds. If you do have one, it isn't painful. Just uncomfortable. You can still move around and walk with one. And it shouldn't be in long...mine was only for a day. But again - ask your doc. Only s/he is going to know the specifics of YOUR operation.

Hi Diane, are you asking if they use a catheter to catch urine during surgery? The answer is yes. It is is a different question, you need to be more specific. Thanks. Patricia P.

I had a catheter. Thank God for it to. It is funny because before surgery I did not want one for the life of me. They put the catheter in when I was 'under' the first thing I said when I woke up was do I have a catheter and the nurse told me that I did and it was to monitor my urine to make sure I was not bleeding or that I was not dehydrated. I could not feel it at all. I even walked that night with it in me. By the next morning they took it out and I begged the nurse to leave it in so I did not have to go to the bathroom. But she took it out. It does not hurt at all. Dont worry

I had a catheter and thank goodness for it. The first day, while they get you up and get you walking, you are still very weak and dizzy when you get up the first couple of times. They need to monitor how much urine you are producing so ensure that you are not getting dehydrated. the catheter will come out once you are up and moving around. It is not painful, the most uncomfortable part of it, is that it can make you feel like you have to pee. good luck to you.
