I am 11 days post op Lap RNY and my Dr. put me on a lowfat, lo carb diet. he wants me to get 60 gms. of protein a day. He prefers we don't eat carbs at all!! This means a lot of meat and eggs. I had baked chicken last night and it was delicious. He recommends dark meat since it is more tender. Good luck!

Hi. Well, I'm right there with you. I'm almost five months post op and I can eat dairy products, all except eggs, which I used to LOVE, but now they gag me. But I cannot eat any meat, so I am getting my protein in with nuts, cottage cheese, cheese, protein shakes and protein bars. It's getting pretty boring. Plus, I'm eating a banana or two a day. Also, I'm really confused about my blood pressure meds and chol. meds. Surgeon said I could stop taking them, but when I'd go a few days, I'd get terrible headaches. If I'd take the meds, the headaches would go away, but then I'd feel lightheaded. I don't know how to wean myself off them. I too am looking forward to the day when we can get back to somewhat normal eating patterns....Not the quanity, but just a little taste of REAL food.

Hi Barbara: I am 7 mos post op and meat really didn't do well for me until about 6 mos. But a funny thing happened...I'm finding that I am having to force myself to eat meat...I'm not really excited with the taste anymore. I'm finding that I am leaning more towards the vegetarian way of eating now. Now that is really ironic, because pre-op, I could FORCE a salad down, but all of those "veggies" went off to the side. Now I can't get enough...I find myself eating more beans, veggies, cheese, etc. I only gag down my meat because I know it has the essential protein that I need, but I don't REALLY want it. If you are having a problem eating eggs, try them hardboiled and made into egg salad. I can't hardly stomach an egg fried or scrambled but can eat a 1/2 sandwich of egg salad. It actually feels good on my tummy too.Just kind of mess around with all of your foods...Sometimes just changing the preperation makes all the difference in the world. I am now down #116 and only #17 away from my goal weight of #130.GOOD LUCK !!!!!!

Barbara, You don't say why you can't eat dairy or meat at 5 months out? Is it because it doesn't agree with you? Dairy is usually one of the first foods that doctors start you off with-cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, cheese. As for meat, the answers are all over the board. I am at 5 weeks out and about a week ago I started with chicken (dark meat is more moist). Some people many months out cannot tolerate chicken or turkey so it depends on the individual. i have also had ground turkey, hot dogs and turkey bacon with no problem. You'll never know unless you try.
