Question:
I am 9 days out after a lap RNY on 9/5/02 and haven't lost a pound yet!

I still feel rather bloated around my stomach ---- not my diaphram, which is where i used to feel bloated. I'm not experiencing anymore gas (horrors!) ----- and i'm following my diet exactly! I even checked with the dietician at the hospital and am trying to drink my water. Could there be a problem? a leak? would i feel it? thanks for any help!    — Adele F. I, also had surgery on the 5th and instead of losing actual weight, I'm still swelled from all that fluid. It is getting better each day and I have been staying with the diet. My daughter did the same thing but now has lost 35 pds in 6 weeks, so I'm pretty sure if we give it time the weight will come off. Good luck.

I had LAP RNY on 7/5/02 and came home from the hospital 17 pounds heavier than I was before surgery! It was all fluids (I was on 3 IVs at one point) and it came off rather slowly. I was somewhat disappointed to see the numbers on the scale. However, I just stayed on my liquid diet and then moved on to pureed foods, and on to solids as scheduled by my surgeon. I am now 10 weeks post-op and down 53 pounds. Just follow your eating plan and give it time. It may be slower than what you expect or want but it will happen.

I gained 11 pounds of fluids from the iv's while I was in the hospital. It took a few/several days to lose the liquids. Be patient. All will work out if you follow your surgeon's plans. :o)

You may still have fluid in your system. Give your self another week or so before you panic. I'm sure everything will be just fine. Good Luck.

I gained 14 pounds after my surgery. Mostly water weight they really pump you full of fluids in the hospital. I am now 4 months post op and down nearly 90 pounds wearing a size 10. Don't worry.

I also gained weight in the hsp, close to ten pounds, and it took a week to loose. Then my tummy was very, very bloated for several weeks. Follow your program, and things will get back to normal, then the weight loss will start. So hang in there!

I gained 20#'s in the hospital. I came home about 12#'s over the weight I went in.. It has been very slow for me too--but feel I just have to stick with it. I figure in the 3 weeks since my surgery I am down 10 real pounds...
