I would ask several things: 1) what types of WLS does the dr do? RNY, DS, etc 2) does she/he do WLS open or Lap and why? 3) what does he/she expect from you during this pre-op time and what about post op? 4) ask to talk with other patients who are post op to find out more about how your doc does things. 5) ask any other questions that pop into your mind. YOu need to be comfortable with this surgery before you agree to it. Take your time and make sure its right for you -- then go for it. Good luck and God bless.

I would ask your doctor the following: How long will the surgery take? How many days will you be in the hospital? When can you return to work? Will you have a drainage tube? Will you be educated by a nutritionalist? Will you be sent home with a binder? How many biariatric surgerys has he preformed? What is the surgeons complication rate? If you are having a lap what would make him decide to do the procedure open? Four weeks post op and glad I did it.

Hello Nancy - I have a list of questions that I used at my Doctors appointment in my profile. Just click on my name at the end of this post. When my profile loads, scroll down to the first portion of it, then click on the "My Pre-Op Questions" link. It'll take you to the section in my profile that has all of my questions. Feel free to cut and paste them and use any and all that you think might be helpful to you. Good luck with your appointment!! Aloha -

If you email me privately, I'll send you a list from the long term perspective.

Alot of good questions posted so far. I would also add that if it is an RNY find out if it is transected or not, from reading here, that does seem to make a difference for some down the road. Good luck!
