Question:
Does taking Biotin actually help with hairloss?
My Dr's assistant told me to take 300-800mcg's(? i think) of Biotin 2 times a day to stop my hairloss. Anyone know if this actually works?? — Sunny4x4chick (posted on January 17, 2003)

Some say it does some say it doesn't. I have always taken Real Meals that
has the biotin and the 60 grams of protein. It has worked for me I am 8
months post op and have no hair loss.

I HAVE TAKEN BIOTIN FOR MONTHS NOW, AND I STILL HAVE A LOT OF HAIR LOSS, I
HAVE NOTICED NO CHANGES JUST BECAUSE I TOOK IT. MAYBE, IT WILL BE DIFFERENT

I have seen many, many posts in my 16 months here at this site from people
who did all the 'right' things to prevent hair loss and still lost lots of
hair. I have also seen many posts from people who didn't do any of the
'right' things and didn't lose any hair. I think it's just plain luck, one
way or another. The good news is that if you do lose your hair, you won't
lose all of it and it will come back in. I lost quite a lot, but when I
went to get it cut really short, my hairdresser said she could already see
new growth. I can see it now too. Some hair loss is a small price to pay
for the great tool of WLS, IMHO.

The girl who works in the office next to me had her surgery 1 week after I
did. She has been taking the Biotin and I have not. Hair loss has been
about the same. We found a wonderful hair stylist though and you'd never
know we lost any!!!!

I think hairloss is as different as people are different. I don't take any
biotion and I have not lost any hair. I am 5 mos post op and I think the
reason maybe b/c I can eat so much protein and red meat! Who knows.

I would swear by Biotin. I was losing my hair excessively, especially the
4-6 month. my surgeon said to take Biotin for a month and if it didn't help
to discontinue,but it would take a month to start working. A month to the
day my hair quit falling out. I hope it works that good for you.
