Question:
What is this real meals? And does it really work?

Does real meals really work and does it taste as good as they claim, for something that is so expensive I want to make sure that this works? Is there anything else out there that might be a little less expensive I'm a college student and I'm broke    — TotallyTori (posted on March 13, 2003)

Does it work? I don't know I'm not that far out. But what I can tell you is that you really should give it a taste first. I bought one chocolate and one vanilla pack, together with shipping I think it was $10 or $11. I don't care for the taste and was glad to try it out first before spending a lot on a large quantity.

They were good at first. I bought a case of the vanilla. And I went about 2 weeks without having a shake, and tried to have one the other day, I got VERY sick to my stomach and starting vomiting instantly. So needless to say, I cant stomach them anymore. :0(

I tried Meal Deals a few weeks post-op and disliked it. I finally found one from my Gym called Curves and it is very good...got to use the blender and add ice..makes it taste very good. I drink it every morning for breakfast. I also like the Zone bars...peanut butter, but don't eat them very often. I hears detour bars are also good...haven't found them yet. Good luck! Open RNY 9/30/02 down 110 lbs.

I have been using Real Meals for several months after reading about it on this site. I know several people that are further out and had been on plateus for a long time that said after they started taking it the weight started coming off again. Not a scientific answer but it seems to be working well for people from what I can see.

I have been drinking Real Meals since my second week post op and at 8 weeks I am down 44 pounds. I only drink half of one each day so it really is not a bad value at all. It gives me 40 servins for a 44 dollar box. I am not sure how it compares to others. My nutritionist has started recommending them and she is very impressed with my continued loss. (3-4 pounds a week and no plateaus!) I eat very well otherwise but I do think that it helps to keep my protein at a maximum and I feel good after I drink it each morning. I like the vanilla. I have tried many shakes and this one works for me. Try them post op. I found that my tastes changed drastically after. I had originally purchased a case of chocolate and they exchanged them for me no problem!

Victoria, Real Meals tastes NASTY to me! I don't know about you, but, I didn't have this surgery to drink my protein. Order a 2 sample pac like I did and maybe you will like it, maybe u won't. Go to vitalady.com and order some samples if YOU REALLY want to drink your protein. I haven't had a shake since I was 6 wks postop, they are nasty, and not filling. I eat alot of meat and chicken, my a labs are beautiful and can eat anything (100+ protein per day from regular food). I am down 99.5lbs in a little less than 7 mos. Good Luck to you! Hi Victoria- I'm a college student, too, so I know how you feel! I haven't tried REAL MEALS, I don't really plan to either. I know I cannot stomach any of the protein shakes/ bars I've tried, and doubt that one would be any better. I do drink ISOPURE however. It's honestly not the best tasting, but it has the consistency of water, so it goes down smooth. You can hold your nose and drink it LOL It has 40grams of protein per bottle (I drink 1/2 a day) and it costs a little over $2 at Vitamin SHoppe. It's more expensive at GNC. Also I recently found a protein bar that I couldn't believe tasted so good. And it was in my local supermarket. It's called BALANCE GOLD, I tried the pnb and choc. one. It was as close to a candy bar as I have gotten with protein. I probably have tried every single protein bar there is out there, Atkins and all the others. This tastes really good, can't hurt to try it! It has 15 grams protein, but 11grams of sugar (there's a reason it tastes good) It was like $1.30 a bar- It's worth it to me. Goodluck to you!

I have started Real Meals now prior to my surgery under the recommendation of my nutritionist to help me lose the required weight before surgery. I like them and there was a ton of recipes on the web site www.protein-solution.com. My nutritionist says that it is the highest quality with the most protein per ounce. She said in the beginning that will be important because I will not be able to drink large amounts. She also said that some peoples tastes change for after surgery for awhile. If I don't like something or can't tolerate it I should just try it again two weeks later. Even if I didn't like the protein shakes I would still take them after this surgery to stay healthy and be successful. I don't like insulin shots but I do it every day because I have too. Hopefully that will stop after surgery, a smoothie a day instead sounds pretty good to me.

To see who is taking a product you should also check the nutrition forum to see what kind of product reviews are there. I went in and found Real Meals listed under three categories with a lot of reviews. . Just copy and paste these links. http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/product-detail.phtml?pid=587 http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/product-detail.phtml?pid=545 http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/product-detail.phtml?pid=527

Your taste will most likely change. I tried and sampled various protien drinks pre-op and the ones I liked pre-op I can't stand post-op. All the protein drinks taste like crap unless you get creative and add some other flavorings like 3 strawberries + artificial sweetner, or some cinnamon + sweetner etc. Then they become tolerable. <p>Take Care, BE well, Be Happy!

I think that at 2 months post op I have to drink some of my protein. I could not possibly eat enough in a day to get my protein in. The quality of your protein is as important as how much you get. I have seen some horendous choices counted as protein such as fast food burgers!!! which can have up to 75 grams of fat!!!! I think early on especially it is an important thing to do and if you do not change your habits early on the old bad ones will wait for you and will be there when you are ready to go back to them! I would wait to actually try them until you are post op as your tastes can change drastically. I had this surgery to lose weight and get healthy. Normal to me would be pizza and a pint of Ben and Jerry's. I am working hard to change that while I have a good fighting chance. I wish you the best of luck and all the success in the world!!!

I mix designer protein with carnations instant breakfast drink(sugar free) Which is cheap At trader Joe's ($9.95)or go to www.designerwhey.com. Also sold at GNC(sometimes on sale for big container). It has 17.5 grams of protein per scoop. With milk and breakfast mix it comes out to be around 30 grams of protein. THat is still my breakfast after 73 days post op and down 61 pounds.I can handle almost anything but my body is picky for its first meal. After that I can(with much guilt) eat Anything except pork.I have had blood work done already with good results. There is a cereal that has 14 grams of protein per Half cup. It is called Hi-Lo cereal.I bought mine at Trader joes but you can check it out at http://www.organicmilling.com/. Ishmael Esparza AKA Cozmo
