Question:
I too have hit a 5 week Plateau

After loosing 45 pounds my first month, my weight loss has hit a stand still. I am getting in all my proteins and drinking over 80 ounces of water daily PLUS walking 3 miles each day. I have not lost in almost 2 weeks. WHat can I do, or change?    — beachdog (posted on May 15, 2003)

Wow, good for you for doing all of that so soon pre-op- pretty hard to do. My advice: don't do anything. you're doing all you can. A plateau is a plateau, nothing you can do usually, its your bodies way of adjusting to the new changes. So have patience and don't stress- it will break on its own. goodluck to you!

Hi~ I'am 7 weeks post-op and I've noticed that when I'am not losing "pounds" I'am losing inches. It seems during these times is when I notice my clothes are starting to get looser. Good Luck and WOW what wonderful weightloss for the 1st 4 weeks!!!

I was the same way, I would worry and get upset because the scale wasn't moving. For me, I think it was the fact that every diet I was on before was great until I hit that darn plateau, then slowly I would go back to my old ways. Just stick to the rules, don't cheat when things slow down - you'll just get depressed and start craving the wrong things again. I can say that the longer you go without the chips and cookies, the better - I had bite of my sons candy bar (Snickers) the other day and I can honestly say that I did not like it, I spit it out. There has been times that I thought that this felt so slow, but I am only 5-10 lbs. from goal at 8-1/2 months. Now I look at it and I am amazed at how fast it all happened. If you follow the rules, it will come off. Good luck!!

Ahhh yes, the DREADED plateau! So NORMAL and so TEMPORARY. As you go along, it is good to take your measurements, and when the scales seem to not cooperate, check out your measurements. Wanna bet you are losing inches even if the scales don't move? ;) Protein first, lots of water, and exercise are the rules to live by. Follow them and we CANNOT go wrong.
