Question:
I need to have my gallbladder checked out but my insurance won't pay for this.

Does anyone know approximately how much I can expect to pay for an ultrasound?    — Erin N. (posted on June 25, 2003)

Why won't your insurance pay for it?? If the doctor suspects gall stones, the insurance should pay...??? I'd double check that... ultrasounds can be really expensive (Upwards of $400+) Good luck!

WHAT? I'd double check. This is a routine procedure and should be covered by your Ins. I had my gb removed with my rny but my surgeon said it was one nasty gb....would have come out anyway and from the looks of it real soon too. Jamie

just wondering, who is your insurance carrier?? The cost will also depend on where you have the ultrasound? A Hospital vs a independent radiologist, etc...

Hi Amy- Did your doctor request one? I would ask your PCP to re-word the referral, you know how insurance companies are so particular. You really can't go around with gallbladder troubles and need to have it looked into. Good Luck, Mea

I just had one done about a month ago and the hospital charge was $404 and the radiologist charge was $103.
