Question:
Should I have another sleep test before I stop using my CPAP?

Do I need to have another sleep test done? I am 3 1/2 months post-op, how will I know when I can stop using my CPAP or what if the setting needs changed as I lose weight? Someone told me you're suppose to have a test done once a year for adjustments.
I'm no longer in that same city that I had mine done...and I'm not even sure if this town has a place that does sleep studies. — Sarahlicious (posted on July 21, 2003)

Sarah, I definitely would have another test done. Just because you feel that you are totally cured doesn't mean you are. Untreated sleep apnea can lead to servere complications other than just feeling tired. Don't take a chance. Do you have a local doctor or surgeon that you could contact about having the testing done.

Sarah...I would get another sleep study done. I thought I was ready to ditch the CPAP and got another sleep study done. It showed that even though I was significantly improved, I had enough apneic and hypoxic episodes during the time I slept on my back to warrant continuing the CPAP. It's at a lower pressure, but still needed. I'll get another one done next year. I've been wearing it for a decade so another year isn't going to kill me...JR

I've lost a lot of weight and a lot of it from my neck. I can have restful sleep without the CPAP. No excessive sweating but too often I have the untreated sleep apnea drugged out drowsy feeling. So when at home I use it but won't take it with me when I sleep out. I figure, that I started developing sleep apnea around 290 pounds and deffinitely didn't have it when I was 270 pounds - so maybe when I hit 270, I'll go for my sleep study to get their seal of good health.
Take Care, Be Well, Be Happy!

I urge you to have another sleep study. A lot of people just stop wearing them and that is dangerous. I know the study is a pain but better safe than sorry.
