Question:
Seeking Post-ops who drink Carnation Instant Breakfast?

CIB is listed as an option under my nutritionist's dairy section. I drank 1/2 cup everyday at first then I stopped once I was able to eat more regular food. I am 4 months out and in the past week have started to drink 1 cup sometime in the morning (either breakfast or snack) for the extra nutrients. <p>My question: For those of you who drink CIB, how long post op did you drink or are you still?    — Sarahlicious (posted on August 12, 2003)

I am 6.5 months post op (lap RNY) and still drink SF CIB with an extra 1/3 cup of powdered milk mixed into 16 oz skim milk once in a while, although I've been replacing it with other protein drinks in the last three months. I drink 16 oz of some protein shake a day...CIB or Real Meals or Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein etc.

I'm 4.5 weeks post op and drink it for b'fast daily. It's great stuff, tasty and can put protein powder in it. I don't think I'm going to give it up any day soon.

I don't drink it much in summer, but it makes a great hot chocolate in winter. Add protein powder or dried milk for an extra boost of protein, and as a thickener.

I am 4 months post-op (lap RNY/down 70)and drink sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast every day with one cup skim milk and 2 tbsp of Jarrow's Iso-Rich Soy protein powder added to it. With everything counted in it is 37 gms of protein. The Jarrow's is the best powder I have found. Not too thick, unflavored, zero carbs, and 25 gms per 2 tbsp. I also add a packet of Splenda and some ice and it is actually palatable. I plan on drinking it indefinitely or until I'm sick, sick, sick of it!

I am almost 5 months post-op and I still drink S/F CIB. Its a good source for protein as a morning snack and it's not as bad as some of those protein shakes out there!

I'm 16 months post op and still have a glass of SF Carnation Instant Breakfast every morning. It's like having a glass of Choc milk. I love the stuff and will continue to drink it every morning because it has such good stuff in there for you.

I'm a die hard fan of Instant Carnation Fat Free! lol Although, since I have discovered Carb Solutions I haven't had any in over a week. Carb Solutions has 21 grams protein in 11 ozs and only 4 carbs. Only 1 gram sugar/0 Fat. French Vanilla is yummy. The trade off was 8 ozs of ICB/12 grams protein to Carb Solutions/11ozs /21 grams protein.By the way, I heard about Carb Solutions from Q&A. In less than 6 days I have shedded another 5 pounds. I'm a believer!!!Good Luck.

I drink SF Carnation Instant Breakfast and Im 9 months post op. I either heat up the skim milk and have it hot, or as a cold drink I put it in a blender and drop a banana in there also,, it tastes so good.

I still drink CIB and I am almost 9 months out. I have 3 different protein drinks that I do just to have a variety as I sometimes get tired of the same old thing. I do CIB, Nector (Apple) and I can not remember the name of the other one now.

Sarah.....I'm 2 yrs post op(WLS 08/08/01) and I STILL drink the sugar free instant carnation breakfast! I have it on the way to work while I take all my vitamins! Usually, on the weekends I won't have the drink because of my schedule etc...I've found that if I eat instead of drink...I don't feel as good/get full faster. I hear all these other people drink protein drinks-and I'm a little confused if the carnation drink has enough protein etc...I know it has the vitamins and that has to help somehow!...lol....Anyway, I love the ICB and it works for me! Email me if you have any more [email protected]! Thanks, Heather
