Question:
42 Pounds in 1 year

I don't understand. I will be 3 years out this September and as of last July I was down to 193 and today I weigh in at 235. I had a tummy tuck in March and also had an upper GI to see how my pouch was looking and it was perfect. NO leaks, no popped staple... What is wrong then? Can someone help me. I am looking my mind and very very depressed.    — Jennifer I. (posted on August 5, 2004)

Honey, a friend of mine gained back 40 #'s but it was froming drinking on the weekend. Beer and other alcholic beverages contains alot of things that will put weight on a person real fast. I don't know your circumstances, but that is what caused hers. R u sticking to the diet, or have you gone back to eating like before? Kathy

That could easily be me:( See my profile, after a while its too easy to gain, thru high calorie foods, grazing etc. Our pouches cant prevent those 2:( I found going back to basics, very low carbs 2 small meals a day, protein first, lots of water and tons of exercise can peel the weight back off way easier than pre op. A supprt group hand out suggested wearing a girdle or tight clothes as a constant reminder to eat less. In my case medium shirts just fit, gain a bit and they get tight fast, a excellent reminder to be careful. Like were were told pre op WLS is a TOOL, not a get out of fat free card:(

I would keep a food journal to record what you are eating. Probably going back to the basics would be a good way to kick of your weight loss again. Good luck!

Don't take this wrong but you have nothing in your profile that will help us help you. Don't know what you're eating, how often, whether you're exercising, how much water you're drinking, etc. Lots of things can cause regain: grazing on high calorie foods, eating the same thing you always eat but doing no exercise, etc. If you haven't changed what you've been doing for three years, maybe it's time to change something. It would be a good idea to record everything you eat, everything you drink, how much exercise you are doing, etc., then take a good look at it to see what your calories in/calories out ratio is. Good luck to you in finding the answer. I can only imagine how distressing it must be to regain.

It's time to join the Grad list. No guarantee that you'll get the rest of the wt off, but there's also the trick of maintaining the loss you have achieved. There is a lot of combined long term experience on this list and I'd recommend it in conjunction with this site and any local lists you use. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG
