Question:
Can we drink Sugar Free Red Bull Energy Drinks Post Op?

I realize that they have caffiene, but my surgeon doesn't particully care that I drink some caffiene as long as I get plenty of fluids / water.    — Bob Has Disappeared (posted on April 12, 2005)

I have had the sugarfree Red Bull but I let it sit for 30 minutes before drinking to allow it to go flat. I did just find with it.

I know quite a few post ops that drink it and have no problems. I personally do not like it, wish I did.

I drank it recently and was just fine...it is slightly carbonated, but no where near what soda is...

With any herbal-enriched product keep in mind that your system may be relatively sensitive to some of the ingredients. Therefore, try a small amount first and see how it affects you (just like the rules you would follow when introducing new foods into your system). My own experience has not been great in trying herbal supplements and drinks-- I've found them to be a bit distressing.

I love red bull sf!It is great for me because Im a caffeine and coffee junkie-15 mths postop, but espeicially energy wise...it is loaded with b12!Its not a replacement for food and vits etc normal postop requirements but I find it great for energy zing,it also goes well with diet ginger ale .Look for the generic energy drinks w caffeine taurine and sf of course the real ones are loaded w sugar.I also like piranha, diet rock star, sobe lean energy drink which is not the same as red bull but still good, diet rush, diet monster.Look for the 3 ingredients and they are all basically the same. They have some great new flavors out there too ,look at gnc and walmart for new kinds.I have tons of energy most days since surgery.I drink coffee but one half a red bull gives me zip! Cheers! <Also the occasional mixed drink should u ever get to that point is great w a little energy mixer.Dont overdo it of course but should u crave a little drink, the red bull keeps me as a lower weight post op from getting super drunk off one cocktail, which would be emabarrasing and unsafe .I had the surgery to feel normal, and getting tipsy on one weak drink does not appeal to me.I usually order a red bull anytime I have a cocktail and drink it together. This doesnt really pertain to the question but hey u might use the info.I like to have a cocktail with a outing or dinner without feeling sloshed so the red bull helps. This said I rarely drink maybe 1 every 6 weeks a cocktail ,and never shots .

I would be very careful about caffeine. You can get an ulcer in the old stomach from caffeine. If your doctor isn't concerned, I would be. It is a known fact that this can occur.
