Question:
Life after pregnancy...

My story is as follows. At the weight of 338lbs. I had a gastric bypass in 08/96. After the surgery I had to have my gall bladder out, had severe problems with kidney stones,(due to not enough drinking) and then finally another surgery for a inscional hernia. In june of 97 I weighed 199lbs. then I got pregnant. This was wonderful news due to the fact that I previously wasnt getting regular cycles at all. I have since had my son and I never have lost my "pregnancy" weight. I am currently at 225 lbs. and very stuck there. I notice I can obviously eat substantially more now then I did, however I still expierence the "full" feeling. How can I jumpstart this process without another surgery? Is there any help in Meridia or other diet drugs? Please email me with an answer    — jill W. (posted on June 25, 1999)

I had wls 3/94. Got pregnant and had a baby 8/96. I started at 462 lbs and got down to 244 lbs. I gained 40 with the pregnancy and lost 20 after birth. I had a c-section and, well, you know, I was healing, tired, no enthusiasm. This set in for 2 years. I gained back to 316lbs (talk about scared). In February I gave up fighting with the food. I went back to exercise at a health club. I do a high aerobic activity (elliptical machine, stair master) for 30 minutes nonstop. I have since lost 36lbs;). (and a size). The food took care of itself and I have more resolve this time to keep on keeping on.

First I believe it is important to know what kind of surgery you had. Some forms of Gastric Bypass surgeries need a revsion. I hope that is not you! First I would like to say that I am not a doctor. I had a Open RNY with Silastic Ring two months ago. I was not losing weight as fast as my doctor thought I should (38 pounds in two months), so he has put me on a Only Protein Diet. Please, check with your doctor before you go on any diet. This is so important. My doctor said that when your body has sugar in it, your liver goes after the sugar, not your fat that you have stored. If the liver sees no sugar, then it goes to the stored fat. So I am staying away from all sugars, that even means fruits and vegetables because they have natural sugars. I am more than happy to answer any of your other questions.
