Question:
Why is it that some people dump?

Why is it that some people dump and others do not? I am 4 and a half months post-op and I don't dump and sometimes it bothers me alot. A lot of times I test myself just to see if I will dump and I don't why is that. Is something wrong with me or what. My doctor did a really good surgery so why don't I dump? Is that something that I have to worry about?    — [Anonymous] (posted on March 19, 2001)

You did not say what type of surgery you had. Dumping usually accompanies RNY or Fobi gastric bypass. Other types don't get this. And, not all RNYs get it, and of those who do, it sometimes goes away after a few months. I actually wanted dumping to train me to eat right, and I had it, but it has disappeared as far as sweets are concerned. So, I am sad now.
