Question:
When I lost hair from month 3-7 following my vbg, it was expected .....

I had a lap vbg on 2/18/00 and lost nearly 100 lbs. I also lost a lot of hair from months 3-7 post-op, but knew it was coming and the hair did return to some extent. Well lo and behold, here I am 15 months post op. My weight's been very stable for 6 months or so. So why in the last month has my hair started coming out again! Especially in my bang area (mostly the left side of my forehead). I am becoming almost obsessively upset over this, since it can't be related to rapid weight loss this time, and since I don't have an expected end in sight like last time. I just see myself going bald at 35. Has any other 1-yr+ post op had this happen? Any clues? Did it come back again? Or as my mother-in-law said, am I just shedding for the summer? HAHA. The reason it takes hair loss so long to show up is because that is how long it takes to deplete the body of nutrients. Review what you are doing nutritionally, are you getting enough protein? Are you taking a multi vitamin and mineral twice a day? Are you taking the proper form of calcium , Iron and b-12? If this is the case you can try some other things cosmeticaly Nioxin shampoo and Scalp Treatment every day a good shorter hair cut to ease the tension on the scalp. Extra b vitamins and zinc specifically geared to the hair with bioten. You can try these things for a few weeks they will not work over night. OR if it is as bad as you say CALL YOUR DOCTOR. I sure would. Thin and bald is not wher I would want to be. Good luck , I hope this helps you.

Hi! I lost all of my pre-op hair. Luckily I had new growth when it fell completely out. Now at 13months post-op, it is starting to thin again. I started a new job after 4 years of disability, and I can't eat as often as I did when I was at home all the time. I don't know if it is the nutrients or the stress, but I have given my 2 week notice. I'll let you know in a few months if I still have any hair!! --
